Chapter 40 - vines, sabers

The LongSword disciple was torn between seeking refuge behind Xuan Yi and being petrified by him. The object hurtling towards them from a distance appeared just as daunting.

The Wailing Mountain had indeed lived up to its notorious reputation, so much so that even Hai Du was barely clinging onto life. While it was technically not the Wailing Mountain but the Yang, it was still quite perplexing.

The enemies after Xuan Yi were like a relentless swarm of bees, each one like a vulture descending upon a carcass, seeking to end their lives one after the other.

The latest assailant, who had just wailed that they had destroyed his mountain home, was no less after his life.

Suddenly, the speaker appeared, his form indiscernible. He seemed to be made of a cluster of mist, cold fog, and a few snowflakes that swirled around him.

He charged towards Xuan Yi with a duo saber that he unsheathed with incredible dexterity and agility. While suspended in mid-air, he slashed both swords around 30 times in a split second, in what appeared to be a rare sword art.

A web of sword chi swept towards Xuan Yi, and the assailant flushed with a stabbing motion as he accelerated towards Xuan Yi. The air around him was frigid, and it felt as though it could instantly freeze anything in its path.

Xuan Yi appeared invincible, possessing a strength that made him seem like an impenetrable immortal. All attacks towards him had no effect and dissipated like a gust of wind.

However, what if it wasn't just one mountain ice spirit? They came one after another in a near-perfect coordinated stream, each unleashing several hundred attacks before vanishing and another spirit taking their place.

Despite their relentless assault, each one failed in their attempts to harm Xuan Yi. He dodged, spun in the air gracefully, as though caught in a mesmerizing dance. He moved with the elegance of a blade of grass caught in a gentle wind current system as he carefully weaved in and out of the hundreds of sword chi waves, jabs, stabs, and attempts by the spirits to strike him.

Some other relentless attacks, he dissolved with gentle hand waves. The sword spirits' frightful speed caused shcokwave that ironically ended up tearing their healing mountain home even further.

In this titanic exchange, a testament was laid of Xuan Yi's unparalleled skill.

"No wonder you're so bold to fight in these mountain ranges. And invite our wrath. But can you challenge the heavens?" the ice person shrilled, their voice shifting between pitches in an eerie manner.

The icy spirit people began to gather and fuse together, causing the mountain to break and the earth to tremble. A new creature was being birthed, a terror was being bred, and death was being conjured up.

The pale, misty figure transformed into a dense, silvery hue upon reaching its full form. As the final person fused, a wave swept out, distorting space and slowing down time.

A wide chasm cracked through the entire mountain range, causing the mountains to tremble and shake.

A shrill, bone-tearing wail echoed through the air, whispering of death and extinction, and causing the long sword disciples to cough up blood and bleed from their ears.

The distant sky closed in quickly, and a purplish hue covered it, accompanied by dense, frightening clouds that could split mountains.

The spirit person moved around Xuan Yi, slashing the air in quick, successive motions, and encasing him in a web of dense sword chi.

The power that surged from the speed of the sword movements created a second fissure that traveled to the nearby mountains, sparing not even the little town about two thousand kilometers south. The ground shook, and the air trembled with the force of the attack.

Xuan Yi knew it was time to take things seriously.

He focused his chi, and a delicate green vine sprouted from the air before him.

The vine grew in length, swaying like a river, a snake, a dragon, until it touched the dome of chi that threatened to crush him.

His mysterious skill was gentle, and the world around him remained silent, unaware of the immense power he wielded in the vine of light.

The clash between Xuan Yi and the spirits shook the outside world while the air around him remained still.

He had never imagined he could possess such strength, a power that seemed to challenge and mock even the gods themselves.

The power that surged forth was like a tearing storm, and the mountain on which they stood, after bearing too long in its fight to remain standing, gave up and crumbled into itself.

A tremble that must have been heard and felt hundreds of thousands of kilometers away followed its demise as it began to break apart into a new landscape of vast escarpments, towering rock pillars, colossal boulders, gravel, and millions of debris.

The web of sword chi shattered like a fragile glass ornament and dissipated as wisps of smoke.

As the dust settled, a new breeze blew out, and Xuan Yi was revealed.

He stood on a slender, perfectly green vine, and the breeze around him bellowed gently as his clothes and hair fluttered.

He was radiant, like a bright emerald moon.

"An immortal!" exclaimed everyone together as they rubbed their eyes in disbelief, squinting and their knees buckling in the air on which they all hovered.
