The bunch of Karnis started running without care toward all the Lotus leaves. These were all clones. Clones made of Mercury. More than that, while each of them had individual thoughts, they were all connected like a hive. A skill that would be impossible to keep going without Karni's Spirit Abyss Realm. No, even an early-stage Spirit Abyss Realm would struggle with controlling this skill.
It was the first time Karni was using it. He could feel that he had the ability to control the number of clones, but right now, the more the merrier. There was no upper limit on this skill, interestingly enough, thought sending out hundred of clones as he did now was obviously quite consuming. He could at most keep this up for ten minutes.
Karni named this whole Soul Ring the Mercury Heart. The Soul Ring offered two abilities connected to the Bamboo Heart. The first was the clones, which Karni named the External Mercury Heart. The clones had their strength divided evenly between them, so they were not very strong. But Karni put his Bamboo Heart—the golden Bamboo—into one of the clones… and that clone felt like an exact replica of Karni himself, except for the abilities it could use.
The one clone with the Bamboo Heart was as strong as Karni, but it could only use the abilities of the Royal Panda. Karni decided to call this one the Heart Clone. He sent it toward Wulin so they could smoothly communicate.
Siduo looked to Karni. "Motherfucker. I can't believe you got Red Rings before me."
"Let's not at this time, eh?" Karni said, not hiding his excitement about using a Red Soul Ring.
Siduo nodded and looked toward the mother daughter pair. "Run east. Kiki and I have people to protect. Grab the few around you. If you're together it will be easier to protect you."
The mother nodded quickly, clearly shaken. A few of the nearby cabins that were encased in the Lotus gathered together and went away.
Karni's clones were saying the same thing to the people in the accident.
Meanwhile, the Heart Clone reached Wulin. Wulin and the group could not help but look at Karni with shock. "This… Red Rings? When?"
"Four days ago." The Heart Clone answered. "How are the civilians on your side?"
"All evacuated. Xie Xie went to scout on the group as well. You were right. About fifty or sixty of them. All Evil Soul Masters. There is a slight problem though."
"What?"
"They have an unknown Soul Sage and Soul Douluo with them. They weren't in your predictions."
"Eh?"
Siduo had gone to scout as well, and she quickly returned with a frown.
Karni looked at her. "I just received the thought from my clone. Unknown Soul Sage and Soul Douluo?"
"Yeah. Guess who the Douluo is. A certain toxic fish of stones."
"Shit. Change of plans. We will not help Wulin and the rest to steamroll this shit. That guy alone can change how this will go."
Karni suddenly froze for a split second. His face turned ugly. Filled with hatred. Siduo could not help but flinch when she saw it. It was the first time she saw him make this face in this life.
"And I just found out who the unknown Soul Sage is."

"That pathetic bastard is here?" A man was filled with rage as he just destroyed a clone. "I didn't even get any energy."
"It's a clone, of course you won't get any purity." Another man said calmly, but a bit too calmly. There was rage in his voice as well.
The younger man turned to the older with a side-eye but did not say anything. That man made him feel uncomfortable. His complete opposite. The first person in the cult so far that managed to completely resist his powers of absorption. In fact, when he tried to absorb the man, he was left bedridden for a whole month. Since then, he had not aggravated him anymore.
The other one had a similar opinion of his comrade. They made each other feel uncomfortable but worked together because they had to.
"Let's hurry up Fu Juan. There should be some kids on the train for you to absorb."
"I've tried to attack a few. The clones just come to sacrifice themselves over and over again. After I killed the first clone, they seemed to be focusing me especially."
"So, the kid is aware."
"Don't call him a kid. That shithead almost killed me." Fu Juan still felt hate for the teen he met four years ago. They did not even know each other's names, but they both hated each other. He went to Douluo Continent because the cult was planning something here soon. Something that would give him a lot of purity. He did not expect to meet his nemesis here as well.
The old man raised his eyebrow. "I know the feeling."
"You don't know jack shit. He was lucky. If not for the water, I would not have lost. This time, he won't escape."
"Stop complaining and go." The old man's Eighth Soul Ring shone. Light blue spikes on his back shone and the liquid toxins they released became mist. "I will paralyse the clones and the sacrifices. You go absorb."
"Remember not to corrupt their essence, I can't absorb your stupid faeces."
"Just fucking go already. I know what to do." The man grumbled, his stony skin and blue spikes shining again. His mist started spreading without care for who got caught in it.
Yet the mist suddenly stopped advancing, all of it gathering toward him. Wind. It wasn't powerful wind, but it was enough to constrain his mist and keep it from advancing.
He frowned. A Wind-type Martial Soul. It didn't matter if his skill was dangerous and that of a Soul Douluo. He could not spread his toxic mist with wind obstructing him. Whoever this was knew his abilities. Wind-type abilities were indeed a big weakness of his 8th Ability.
"Old Man Shi Zan. We meet again. How is your son? Did you manage to get emergency care?" Karni and Siduo appeared.
Shi Zan the Stonefish Soul Master. A newbie in the organisation since he was in it for only four years, but he was already a leader of a battalion. This was his battalion.
"You should know you fucker. You killed him!"
Karni snickered, genuinely mocking him. "I could have saved him if you had just let me remove my Sound from him. It's not my fault you fled."
The man felt like his heart was just stabbed. His face turned red. Just as he was about yell at Fu Juan that their target has changed, he saw the damn slime man charging toward Karni.
A Soul Ring shined. A Red one. Shi Zan's eyes widened. Wait, the red shine from before was from Val Karni? "Fu Juan! Watch out! Val Karni is dangerous!"
Karni's fifth Soul Ring shone. Red Ring of the Royal Panda.
Leaves of a flower coalesced in front of Karni. Thousands of little petals, fusing together in a hexagonal shape. A hexagonal shield.
Slime spikes exploded into the shield, but it did not move.
"Eh?" Fu Juan didn't process what just happened. His attack was… stopped? Defence? From a guy who only knew how to dodge? No. There had to be some other Soul master nearby-
The flower petals clicked, changing shape in a split second. Fu Juan reacted quickly. His defensive skill activated alongside the spikes that covered the slime.
Yet he did not expect… a simple palm to appear.
It was covered in wooden bamboo armour, it was fluffy, it was like a mirror, and it struck with a… paw. A paw? "Phah, that's pathe-"
Shi Zan stared. Eh? Where was Fu Juan? He was just there… he felt slime over his clothes. Shi Zan stared for a bit again. Fuck. That bastard… was that the power of Red Soul Rings?
The leaves blocking the sight in the shape of the shield started transforming. They flew around a person covered in mighty samurai armour, whose fur was thick and shining silver like a mirror, reflecting the world. The leaves turned into the shape of a giant Greatsword… Wait… that was Val Karni? He looked nothing like what he remembered. That… that looked like some god of war instead. And worse of all, there seemed to be a small, invisible, yet thick storm around Val Karni as well. So, he was the one who controlled the winds before as well?

Karni stared coldly at the slime. Fuck. The bastard was still alive. The vitality of that fucking slime was immense. The core stayed intact. All of Panda's offensive abilities went into it, but none of them were purely offensive, so it was not that strange that he couldn't instantly kill the bastard even when caught off guard. What he used in the attack was the Samurai Bamboo Armour shockwave function, the bounciness of the Royal Panda Pad, the strength of the Royal Panda Cushion, and finally his two new abilities: the Cyclone Protection and the Perfect Mercury Heart.
The Cyclone protection summoned an intense, condensed wind around Karni's immediate vicinity, serving as a powerful pushback force that also allowed for a degree of manipulation—like what Karni did with the winds to hold back the toxic mist. However, he was using the Pressure of the Autumn Wind to help him control the ability.
The Perfect Mercury Heart on the other hand was the other skill of the same Soul Ring as the External Mercury Heart. It took Karni's own body and pumped Mercury through his heart, changing his constitution. His body could either become solid mercury or liquid mercury, depending on his will. Karni was still figuring out the details. In the moment of the attack, he decided to use the liquid form, to support the effects of the Royal Panda Pad.
"T-This! How is it possible!" A small piece of slime regenerated inside a small crater where it ended up due to Karni's attack.
Karni looked down on him. He was keeping himself floating right now, through the force of the wind that Cyclone Protection offered. "Bitch. I'm bouncier than you. You can't outbounce my bounciness anymore."
Siduo looked at Karni from the side and almost cracked a smile. That was rude. He was directly mocking the dude's primary function of the Martial Soul by saying that his own is better. It sounded stupid, the way he said it, but it was mightily effective.
"You mother-" His voice lost sound. He could not finish the sentence.
Karni brought out an instrument. The very instrument Siduo gifted him for his birthday. It was a roundabout way for Karni to still use both of his Martial Souls at the same time without the Guardian. He put it into the form a violin to have it on his shoulder, while he pointed his Greatsword made of flower petals and leaves at Shi Zan and Fu Juan.
The Greatsword in his hand came from the same skill as the Cyclone Protection. Karni named the Soul Ring as a whole the Cyclone Flower. This particular skill of the Soul Ring, however, was called the Cyclic Petals. The skill gave him the ability to control thousands of petals, more concretely, it allowed him to form shapes, which fused together and created terrifyingly durable objects.
It worked similar to Siduo's Torso Bone of the Light Stripes, except unlike hers, it was strictly defensively oriented, as opposed to Siduo's offensively-control oriented skill. That being said, due to the sheer durability it offered when the petals fused together, it could obviously be used offensively—say, like a giant Greatsword. Its durability was easily comparable to Spirit Refined Metal without the sharpness. That combined with the sheer versatility of the skill made it truly worth being a Hundred-Thousand-Year-Old ability.
Karni stared at the two people. His enemies. Almost fated, he felt like, considering how he met the two. Shi Zan hated Karni to his very core for his son's death, while Karni hated Fu Juan to his very core due to the killings of the pandas.
He was tempted to just use the Mercury Wasteland Domain. His Right Leg Bone. With his metamorphosis of the body, he should be able to hold it for a few seconds. His injuries should also be lesser. That was… if the skill was like before. But it wasn't just Karni that underwent the metamorphosis this time around. Tempest did as well. And that included the Soul Bone, which was now a Hundred-Thousand-Year-Old Soul Bone. It might even be the death of him now. That was a last resort skill.
He sent a message to Siduo. "We're abandoning the steamroll plan we had originally. We will leave the Shrek Seven Devils to deal with the group as they should win anyway. We're killing these two here."
Siduo stepped up. "Deal." She bumped her fists and lit aflame of White and Black. Like Karni not having the Guardian, she was also missing her Whip-Blades right now.
Karni started with a wide swing of the Petal Greatsword, a swing that would not reach anyone.
And at its greatest speed, he spun the violin that had his Cosmic Instrument inside. Shift.
Karni appeared behind Shi Zan, who reacted quickly, as he already faced Karni before. However, this was a whole new Karni he was facing now.
The intent of the Greatsword exploded from Karni as well. He swung with ferocity of the wind, the support he got from Cyclone Protection. He was keeping himself afloat with that skill as well. As a Soul Douluo, it was beneficial for Shi Zan to stay in the air.
Due to the Cyclone Protection, Karni also did not need to fear the Toxic Mist of the Stonefish.
Away from Karni a flash of White and Black crashed next to the slime. "You're the little brat that murdered a bunch of cute pandas, right?"
"Brat?" Fu Juan shouted with anger.
"As someone who likes the colour scheme of the pandas and has a fiancé who is a panda, lemme teach you a few lessons you slimy piece of poo."
"How dar- ugh." The slime was hit. He looked shocked at the hit.
"Oh yeah, I heard of your absorption skills. I wonder how you do against Yin and Yang energies when they're already burning up?" Siduo grinned with satisfaction. It's hard to absorb energy that was actively burning up.
More than that, the skin of the slime was smoking. The attack was effective.
Siduo's Fourth Soul Ring of the White Tiger shone together with her Sixth Soul Ring of the Hell Cat. Sun Meteor and Moonless Smite. If her explosiveness through offense wasn't enough, her explosiveness in speed had also gone through a change now. She rushed at Fu Juan. But it was at this point that Siduo disappeared and Karni appeared.
At the same time, Siduo suddenly lit up like fireworks, her self-fusion activating.
"Motherfucker. I'm back." Karni said in a deep voice. He slammed the Petal Greatsword with full might at the slime. It wasn't just Intent in it. The Pressure of the Wind and the Weight of Earth was added to the attack. Then his Samurai Bamboo Armour all exploded at the front, sending debris at Fu Juan.
Karni spun and sent the back of the armour flying with shock as well. The shockwave was incomparably powerful compared to before. A pure element of wind was now added to it.
Yet, mid-spin, Karni brought the violin around as well, his fifth Soul Ring shining. Who said he couldn't attack with a violin? Quivering Silver Feathers appeared in a spiky form, attacking the slime like a spiked club violin. More than that, he started up the Disordered Spiral Resonance.
The Slime Avatar activated while also growing at the same time. Karni saw a hidden drill growing behind the giant slime. The attack that fatally wounded Lily four years ago. Karni would not fall for it again.
As the Violin crashed, an explosion of Sound was released at the same time. The ground rumbled, the space was torn, as was the slime. But Karni did not reach the core. Damn, if he only had the Guardian with him right now.
The Slime quickly counterattacked. As long as its core was not destroyed, Fu Juan could attack with any part of his body as if they were his hands. Yes, he took a lot of damage, but he did not take damage like normal humans did. His injuries worked more like a health bar in video games unless one struck the core. That's what made him so troublesome.
Karni deflected the attack with transforming the Cyclic Petals smoothly from a shield and back to a Greatsword that he used to attack again, but his smooth transitions were disrupted. Needles were shot at Karni from afar. Cyan blue needles. Stonefish needles.
Karni had to move the Greatsword again to protect himself. The slime used that split instant to attack Karni's opening.
Karni answered in kind with the Royal Panda Pad. "I told you I'm fucking bouncier."
While Karni could easily defend himself with his newfound abilities, something was wrong. Siduo's abilities should enable her to keep up with that Soul Douluo, at least for this amount of time.
He took a quick look at what was going on and found that Shi Zan was rushing directly at him while Siduo was bombarded by two Soul Sages. Wait… those two should have been handled by the Shrek Seven Devils. What were they doing? He turned to look at the wider battlefield. Shit something was different. That battalion they were fighting was too organised. More so than in the vision.
The battalion commander changed. Shi Zan became the commander. That changed more than what Karni assumed. Shit. He was sloppy. He should have accounted for the differences more thoroughly.
Alright change of plan. First. Taking it on.
The Absorbing Slime and the Stonefish attacked at the same time. And Karni let them. His defensive skills activated. Royal Panda Cushion. Royal Paw Pad at the ready to intercept. The Samurai Bamboo Armour enveloped him. The wind of the Cyclone Protection worked together with the Cyclic Petals. This was how the Cyclone Flower Ring was meant to be used. The two skills working together in tandem, forming an impenetrable defence of objects and wind. Finally, Karni's heartbeat with Mercury through Perfect Mercury Heart. The Sixth Soul Ring. By now he put away the clones, as the people had already evacuated.
However, even with that, Karni could tell the two were using up all of their energy in this one attack. The opening showed, they were going to use everything they got. Karni had to take it on. It was time to realise his potential as a defensive system. Three skills were left in waiting.
A giant drill of slime and spikes rushed at Karni from one side and a corruptive layer of a giant spike, supported by hundreds of tiny ones attacked from the other side.
Karni could Shift but… where was the fun in that? He could turn it around right here and now!
The attacks reached him. A grand impact of slime and toxins. Purity and Corruption. A mix that did not mix. It was like Yin and Yang. When in contact uncontrolled. The result would be catastrophic.
But Karni's Soul Rings shined. He still had more to do. Relaxing Aura. Battle Armour. Blooming Lotus. All three exploded suddenly and at once.
An explosion followed anyway. But… as the dust cleared and the two Evil Soul Masters reached the scene… the ground was fine, and instead of a ruined panda, they were faced with a ferocious tiger. Eight… Eight Soul Rings in total mixing altogether.
Shit. They've been had.

On another side Karni appeared. Honestly, quite beaten up. But two Soul Sages that were keeping Siduo at bay by pure annoyance? He knew exactly how to deal with those types.
These assholes clearly excelled at dodging and attacking with ghostly means. But well… teleportation was perfectly used against this. Even better, he was decently close to the Shrek Seven Devils.
Flight into the River activated as soon as Karni Shifted. He appeared behind one guy that tried to block the simple looking kick, only for the guy's arms to be completely broken. Flight into the River was powerful… but with the newly added metamorphosis of the Spring Earth? The attack shattered a few of the ribs as well.
At the same time, Karni's Violin transformed in quality. He had reached the Disordered Spiral Resonance in the previous round. Its maximum. There was one true long distance powerful attack he had. The Violin shone bright in a Light Grey colour. Spiritual Power, Sound, Soul Power mixed together in one go, reaching a climax. And were then released.
Karni made a wide arch. An attack he had not used in a long time. Sonic Entropy. Not aimed at the other Soul Sage, but at the giant group where the Shrek Seven Devils were at.
Wulin ordered the group to jump into the sky just before it happened. Karni had warned them.
As for the other Soul Sage, he obviously tried to attack Karni in that time, but Karni just stood there with the Samurai Bamboo Armour and the Perfect Mercury Heart covering him. The hit of the man connected. It looked to be a rapier of a bloody rose. But even if there was only a tiny scratch in the Samurai Armour, Karni could still send bits flying.
And he did.
The man's arm got obliterated up close by shockwave. Yes, this was how Karni was supposed to fight. Especially against Evil Soul Masters like this. Shift had tactical might. He should only regularly rely on it once he had no more choice. It was best not to be used thoughtlessly.
Control could be achieved in many ways. He felt like he had found his path. If Siduo's path had long since been only focused on explosive path of offense, Karni's path was a bit all over the place. He was a supportive control system, but his Sound had properties that allowed for extreme attack that ignored certain defences. Shifting almost made him a semi-agility system. When Lily joined, the skills turned defensive, but they were also founded on strength.
But he could not be all of it. Even Wulin in the future, despite the guy's Spiritual Power being the cream of the crop, he knew to use it to enhance his chosen style. Overbearing Assault and Might through the Spear. He was already cultivating this style through the Strength of his body, but it would become much more refined in the future.
Today, it felt like a small path had opened up with these short bouts. His ability to defend was… terrifying. He became one of the strongest defence systems overnight due to his new skills. Yet control was still there for him. As was Shifting, as was Sound. As were the anomalies in his set up. The Soul Bones. Both offensive and terrifying. One best used in surprise, another to dominate.
So how to combine it all? As his mind was getting clearer, his thoughts were disturbed.
Siduo was overwhelming the two bastards by not letting them get an attack in at all. Her way of attacks could always be described with one word. Explosiveness. More explosive than even Wulin. And it seemed to be too much for the Slime and the Stonefish. Afterall, at times it was too much for Karni as well.
The two fuckers were running.
They would not get away. Karni was determined.
Karni's Sixth, Red, Soul Ring shone. External Mercury Heart. Karni brough out only the one clone. He gave him the Heart of Bamboo.
The two Karnis shone brightly in lights of Soul Rings, defensive abilities activating. Cyclic Petals. Patterns of beauty appeared in a wide range. A hexagonal cage to keep them from trying to escape. It became a terrifying net of hexagons and petals.
The Slime did not care. He charged ahead of the Stonefish, fully ready to squeeze through the holes.
Karni's left leg twitched, and he pounced at the slime together with Perfect Mercury Heart and Royal Paw Pad channelled through the Flight into the River.
He hit the slime… and knocked it right back to where it started. Shi Zan even had to dodge the incoming slimeball sent in his direction.
But the Stonefish attacked immediately after. Hundreds of tiny needles, a few big ones mixed in between.
The Cyclic Petals started turning. Forming into many tiny groups. Many tiny shields. Every single needle was blocked.
Ah. Karni could almost see it. With the fusion of the Guardian in the future. Where he could mix Sound into it. The Sound could bounce back every time the attacks hit.
Stonefish charged straight at the Heart Clone. Wind ran around it, and the clone used Drunken Ghost Dance with the wind and combined it with Controlling Crane, Capturing Dragon to spin the Stonefish right back into the net of Cyclic Flowers.
Yes! This was it. Karni was seeing it. The path. They ran the other direction. Karni Shifted.
This was it!
Constrain them. Control them like puppets. Do not let them leave. Do not let them attack. Absolute Control. A Virtual Domain. This was his path. A Defensive Control. It was not about just winning. It was about completely removing the options that the opponents had through defence and blockades.
Constrain them. Blooming Loti appeared. Spiritually implicating the whole field.
Constrain them. Bounce back any attempt at escape. An impenetrable wall of armour and body.
Constrain them. Use the Space of the Silver Quivering Feather. Summon the Black Hole that sucks in everything in its path. Redirect them.
Constrain them. Predict their every move. Control them so they make moves you can counter. Mirage Bestowal.
Constrain them. Deal with anomalies. Nerve Authority. Give yourself time to constrain them again!
All of his skills came together. If only he had the Guardian, he could use it even further! To pressure them to be exactly where he wanted them to be.
If not a group, use the constant flow of his attacks he had honed over the years. The never-ending flow to give them no options but to be constrained! No matter what, find a counter-attack. Never stop replying to attacks. Always deal with them.
A constant, Cyclic flow. A flow one cannot escape from.
"Shit. Emergency Squad! Do it!" Shi Zan yelled to the few people that were still trying to hold up against the Shrek Seven Devils. He poured his energy into a token.
As soon as the words were said, the Evil Soul Masters stopped trying to survive. They all rushed toward Shi Zan. Even the one Soul Sage that had his bones broken did it. Their energy turned dark.
And from that darkness sprouted the appearance of skulls. Fiery green skulls with the fire of the soul. Two of them.
"Those fuckers. That's the Fire of Life." Karni's expression could not help but change. The Shrek Seven Devils and Siduo also realised what was up.
"Wulin! We need to get their leaders at least!"
Karni started Shifting the Shrek Seven Devils to his side. He was really missing Gu Yue at this moment. Xie Xie was the only one who arrived alone. Also, he could not get Xu Xiaoyan and Yue Zhengyu to get here. They were recovering. It seemed like Yue Zhengyu used a skill that took a toll on his life force to protect Xu Xiaoyan.
With all of them charging without care in the world… Karni had only started walking down this new path. He could not constrain them all.
And of course, the Slime and the Stonefish took the cowardly route and ran toward their flock, hiding between them. When they reached it, the Corruption of the Stonefish even fuelled the skulls. He was the key to this escape tactic.
Siduo charged in from her side, her attacks shining brightly, but it was not yet enough. She got rid of a good few of them, but they adapted quickly in this situation. Their escape plan was meticulous and cruel. Sacrifice anyone to pave the way to escape. A charge without care.
Tang Wulin sent his great Dragons Flying, Xie Xie slashed at anyone he could, Yuanen Yehui crushed their skulls to the best of her ability, Ye Xinglan slashed their heads off cleanly.
There were only twenty of them remaining in total, but that was a great amount when half of them were using up their own life force.
Even as Karni charged in, as he built up to the Sonic Entropy again, he could not stop such a large group intent on letting two escape. Especially so when the escapees were a Soul Sage and a Soul Douluo.
They broke through the net. A few of the deathly skulls that ate at their life fire enlarging at that very moment.
So that's what they were waiting for. That moment where they broke through. The skulls started eroding the Cyclic Petals net. And they kept on growing. The ones using their Fire of Life stayed there, fuelling the skulls as much as they could.
The Shrek Students all looked at each other. They were in understanding. They had to let those bastards go. They needed to deal with those skulls instead. If they rushed after the two people escaping, they were in danger of getting deathly injured. Twenty People with Soul King and Soul Emperor power were nothing to scoff at.
They all rushed in and attacked with their strongest abilities. To start off, Wulin released a mighty roar. A new Domain appeared across everyone. Golden Dragon Rage Domain.

The fight was simple. There were no tactics to it. It ended surprisingly quickly, but it was exhaustive. The skulls were like statues that attacked. Karni and Yehui were the primary defenders, while the rest attacked at every chance they got. Truthfully, if not for Wulin's Domain, it would have been even worse.
After five minutes, it was over. But those five minutes were enough for Shi Zan and Fu Juan to get far away.
Karni was beaten up. So was Yuanen Yehui. They got the worst of it. Those skulls targeted the soul. They had to be very careful. Karni was admiring Wulin's new domain. Despite Karni's own increase in power, he was yet again reminded of the Golden Dragon King's power. It filled him with so much energy, and it suppressed those Evil Skulls enough to counteract their effects. Karni feared to go against that dragon power someday.
They did not have the energy to pursue. Those skulls were yet another thing Karni did not remember. Seeing that Shi Zan called out to them and used some token, it was likely the plan he came up with for just in case. Evil Soul Masters didn't care when their subordinates died.
