Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Asking a question

Both boys and the man stood face to face and neither uttered a word, Lynx and Quil was too caught up thinking about the immense power. They were in thought, but the man was thrilled and excited. The silence hanged in the air and finally the man spoke.

"Time for some entertainment", he grinned as he made movements towards the boys.

The man attacked them relentlessly hardly giving them any time to attack him. His fist clashed with the walls and floors of the building, each swing carried a powerful impact as it dented their surroundings and shattered the furniture in place. Lynx and Quil didn't understand as they were told that the examiner would ask them a question and they had the opportunity of choosing, but the situation that they were in was unheard of.

Quil tried to get a change in roles as he pushed himself and started making movements to be on the offense, he started returning blows at the man, but never did they hit him. The building was now a battle house as every worker left the building as they didn't want to be caught in the chaos. As the fight intensified the boys pushed their limits each time, but they never got close to landing a single hit. After about three minutes of an unwavering confrontment between Lynx, Quil and the man. He felt something vibrating at his side and then he abruptly stopped and both boys wasted not a single second and swung at him. The man removed the timer from his side and sighed heavily ignoring the boys. Lynx and Quil was on opposite sides of the man as they were within range to hit him.

The man balled one of his hand into a fist and punched Quil in his stomach and momentarily at the same time gutted his knee into Lynx's chest. Both boys was hit to the entrance that they once came, it was hardly recognizable. When Quil and Lynx got hit by the man they felt their world block out for a few seconds before everything was visible again, they crashed into the passage and on impact the wall was folded inwards along with them. Blood was coughed from their mouths as they moved themselves from the wall. They looked at the man as he was still in a joyous mode as his face was glowing.

"I expect nothing less from those who wears those suits". "You both are really quick and I like that" the man said pleasingly. "Now give me your names" he added as he strode to his desk or what was left of it. His desk was pressed in and was half the size of what it was, he tried opening a drawer but because of the damage to his desk the drawer wouldn't budge . He then used both of his hands and pulled on the desk, reshaping it back to its original form. He then took up his chair that was resting in the far off corner. He placed the chair around his desk taking a seat. The man spoke casually as if nothing happened and Lynx and Quil just watched him as they stood high on guard.

"My name is Quil Spikin" Quil answered as he kept a tight gaze on the man. The man heard the familiar last name and was aware of his background.

"Lynx Ro" Lynx answered plainly as usual. The man found nothing extraordinary about him, but he could acknowledge his strength.

"How'd you like your exam? Written or combat?" he asked grinning at the second option hoping they would choose it. He was aware that they were strong and fast, he was sure if he fought them he would enjoy it.

"Can we have the points?" Lynx asked directly. Quil turned to Lynx his face asking what are you doing as he knew that wasn't how the exam is supposed to go and just asking for the points made no sense, it's not like the examiner would hand over the points because you asked. When the man heard the boy he was sure he felt something in his head snap. He replayed the words in his head trying to make sense of what Lynx said, but he heard him correctly and looked over their stance. The man looked slightly surprised as he found the question bizarre. He didn't budge as a few seconds passed and then Quil spoke.

" Mister?" Quil called and the man was drawn from his thoughts.

Never had he ever heard such bluntness as he felt slight confused as they wore such unusual expression. He then pulled out the drawer and handed them a small chip. Quil was surprised Lynx's method worked. Both boys thanked the man and then they walked to the door that once stood perfectly. The man ran his hand through his hair before dialing someone's number.

"Tiger you're next" he said in a low voice hanging up before a response, he placed the phone down and smiled.

He actually enjoyed the short moment, but a thought crossed his mind as he found an odd present around one of them. The person called Tiger found the message slightly odd. Growing up Lynx was taught it was better to ask for something before forcefully taking it, so he thought it was best to ask for the points rather than fight for them.

While everyone evacuated the building somewhere there was one who remained. He had a computer like device that was reading power waves that was outputted during the battle. He manically grinned from both ears as he wore an expression that ate fear, a thrilled expression that would send chills down anyone's spine. His eyes darted at the readings in front of him as the flames of pure mischief dance in his eyes.

He soon lost containment as he released hallow chuckles. Quil gave Lynx the chip and Lynx collected the point chip and it all summed to eighty points. They both agreed that the next point would belong to Quil. They made haste as they made their way to the building's exit. They were passing a room when they heard muffled sounds and they stopped to check. A man sat as he had both hands clasped over his mouth, but to Quil and Lynx the man was only sitting as his shoulders trembled a few times.

They approached slowly step by step and when they were a few meters away they stopped remaining silent. The man heard the approaching footsteps and then he stopped moving, he silently moved his body and looked from the corner of his eye, he smiled once more but masked it. He slowly stood up and took up his device.

"Sorry I meant not to startle you" the man said in the calmest tone one had ever heard, he smiled as his expression was soft and gentle.

"Are you okay?" Quil asked questioning his own question as it sounded quite informal.

"I'm very well. You kids should continue on, you are taking an exam is that not" the man said gently as he smiled.

Seeing that the man was well both boys hurried off still in pain. Following the map to the next area they reached the end of the main city of Gengora and any other actions that were to be taken would have to be done when they crossed the border. They walked to the tower that was close to the edge, normally one would pay to cross to the other side, but since they were taking the exam and wore the school's suit they weren't charged and given a free pass ticket. They boarded the small van like vehicle that hovered away when they entered. They looked down at the city as they got closer. The city looked much duller than Gengora and couldn't be compared, but it was slightly suitable if one was to look at it by a glance from a distance.

Closer they got as Quil took in the sight of the landscape, never had he ever been to the border or even crossed it, but the welcome he felt wasn't receiving. The vehicle stopped as it reached the other side and both boys disembark. They both familiarize their feet's with the grounding as they took the first two steps. They were greeted by the odor of metallic steam, an indescribable smell swam in the air as they inhaled and exhaled. Lynx was already familiar with such smells, but for Quil all was new, it made him feel nauseated, but he would not let something like this affect him.

Quil looked at Lynx making eye contact and then ran off in the trail of the mapping that they saw. As they passed through lanes and streets they were largely welcomed silently by steers, snarls, and disgust. The air got thicker as the chased continued as if they had passed by an invisible wall. After a few minutes of navigating through the buildings they came to a stop as they looked down at a dark path. They had reached their destination, but there was one last thing that stood in their way, that would stop them from their goal.

They both hastily but cautiously went down the stairs as their feet clacked with each step on the stairs that echoed in the hallways, playing a repeat of rhythmical sounds that the shadows danced to. There surrounding felt warmer than before as they walked the dark halls, feeling the eeriness that shouldered them. As they continued walking they felt a new feeling that forced on them as it passed and with it they heard a loud bang of clashing metal. Quil and Lynx finally reached the check point of the mapping and as they entered they saw a huge figure of a man whose back faced them. They watch as he lifted his hand up and back down repeatedly.

"Can't he sense us?" Quil questioned internally. "Excuse me sir" Quil spoke up since a few seconds had gone by and he didn't want to waste anymore.

The man was rising his hand as he heard a small voice that reached his ear and he abruptly stopped, he then place the hammer down and turned his head to see who was at the door. He turned his head slowly to get a view of his new visitors. Quil eyes met the man's eye as he turned around and he froze stiffen and his feet planted themselves to the ground without the brains acknowledgment and separated his legs ready for movements. When Lynx saw the man's eyes he too rooted to the ground without thinking. They could feel the powerful waves surging from the man and they were slightly sure what his next move might be.

The man before them stood about seven feet tall and his long fiery colour mane of a beard that rested on his upper chest. He had long fire colour hair that was wrapped in a bun, his shoulders were broad and he was very muscularly built his muscles popping from underneath his skin. He wore scars over his face and body, he stood like a giant wall in his shorts and an apron and black gloves. He stood like a beast looking down at the boys.

His huge figure would scare anyone, he was like and humanoid beast. Tiger stared down on the boys waiting for them to turn tails and run, but they only stared back wearing an expression he couldn't read, he couldn't tell if they were frightened into shock, or was it confidence or cockiness. Seeing that his figure couldn't scare then he spoke.

"Can I help you?" Tiger asked in a low rough voice that sounded like thunder. But even though he spoke the boys still did not move, surprising him. Tales had spread about him around the school and every year the students would avoid getting points from him and if they did wonder into his field they would leave after seeing or hearing him. He had been carrying his record for holding his point tag for eight years and Mr. Wiskey had his record for four years.

"Can we have the points?" Quil asked first seeing that Lynx's method had worked before. Tiger was astound by the outright question, the were to engage in combat or ask for a question, but instead the boys before him was asking for the points upfront, he had never experience this before. Tiger remained there staring at the boys and then his brain slowly pieced things together.

"Who did you get your points from before coming here?"

" I think his name was Mr. Wiskey" Quil answered.

Tiger now understood the strange message he received.
