Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Room Where it Happens

The following day, Kyo's luck seemed to have turned around. In the morning he talked with President Yuuki, spoke with Kimori, went to his classes, ate lunch with President Yuuki, finished his classes, then visited the remaining clubs that were on the list that had finally been given to him. These included: Home Ec, Theater, Body Building, Literature, Art, Anime/Manga, Dance, and finally the Tea Ceremony Club.

The only one that he had missed his opportunity with was the Science Club. All of these went without incident and were rather straight forward in their requests. After visiting each club, Kyo returned to the Student Council room, copied his notes onto a sheet of paper, and left it on the desk. The request list has finally been completed.

Napping: candles

Witchcraft club: sea salt, baking powder, and rubbing alcohol.

Basketball: air pump

Archery: new targets plus arrows

Volleyball: a new clothes cart.

Board Game Club: a new game

Home Ec: a new mixing bowl

Theater: a top hat

Gardening: a new small hand shovel

None of the other clubs needed anything, and even Kyo wrote a note on the side of each sports club's request that it doesn't need to be this month for the new items. After that Kyo went home for the day.

The following day and the last day of the school week was now upon them. In the morning, Yuuki greeted people, including Kyo. Five minutes before the bell she went up to the student council room and saw the list Kyo had left. Then she made an announcement to the school, "all presidents and Vice Presidents of each club, please come to the student council room after school, thank you." To call an all-call meeting of each president was rare, but very few people had a reason to miss it.

During lunch Kyo asked Yuuki what the announcement was for, and all she said was, "it's for you," with a cheerful smile and a laugh. In actuality this was to discuss and decide if Kyoyota Arianagi has earned the right to permanently be the treasurer of the student council for the next three years or if they should find a new replacement. It was also for pointers on what Kyo can do better at moving forwards, if he got the position. Despite the formality of the school's rules stating that each member of the student council picks who the next person for their position is. It would be worse off for everyone if someone was placed in a position and everyone else hated them there.

Within the student council room, there were only the presidents and some vice presidents, in a circle, with President Hanami at the head. Even the advisor of the student council, Gara Nyuga, had no say in this discussion so he left, taking out the two couches in the center to make room for the fifty some-odd people now inside.

At Neru's (president of the napping club) request the lights were turned off, adding a tense feeling to the meeting. "Alright, everyone is accounted for, since Neru is about to fall asleep she will be the first to start, then we will go in order of those he met with. Does that sound ok with everyone?"

Everyone nodded before Neru spoke, she was sitting on the floor, wrapped in a rather large blanket, and her voice was drowsy, "Kyo, was like a ball of anxietyyyy. He also isn't anything like Takiko, buuuut he does have potential." Some people nodded in agreement before Amimono (president of the knitting club) spoke. "I agree, he's like a tightly knotted ball of yarn ready to unfold at any moment. Kyo seems like the type to feel sorry about something he didn't even do. Unfitting for that of a student council member, but he does have potential." Some people were taken aback by her yarn analysis, but they couldn't disagree. Kuroshi (president of the witchcraft club) spoke next.

"HAHAHA, you are all fools. I have seen a side of that boy that none of you have. He is perfect." She was as sporadic as ever, but she was the only person to see the lengths at which Kyo would go to for the student council. Everyone was confused on what happened between the two, but her words were impactful. Shosetsu Gaku (president of the literature club) gave his thoughts about Kyo next. "Arianagi is not prepared to be the treasurer of this school."

"Can you explain why that is?" Yuuki asked in a serious tone.

"His actions are not thought out fully, he requires too much observation, plus he always has to be pointed in the right direction. Like a bird trapped in a cage, he cannot think for himself." This is not the first president to have made the analysis of Kyo being a bird in a cage.

"I will keep those thoughts in mind, thank you. Please speak your mind next Emi." Yuuki continued. Emi Bijutsu (president of the art club) spoke, "From what I have seen he makes connections easily and sees the amount of work others put into their chosen crafts. He has potential."

Kenji Koda (president of the basketball team) nodded in complete agreement, "He can talk to anyone, and isn't the type to get intimidated by others. I think he's a great fit." Hiroko Oyogu (president of the swimming club) Tetsu Kishwara (president of the archery club) also agreed with Koda's statement as well as the other sports club presidents and vice presidents had similar impressions of Kyo.

Asobu Shosha (president of the gaming club) gave his thoughts on the matter. "Arianagi isn't the best member of the council, he is awkward, and wavers in his choices. He tries to solve everything with logic and reasoning even if the situation before him doesn't involve those things. Despite all of that, he is fun to play with and tries his best. I think he is a good choice for the role of treasurer." His explanations are always long winded, but he spoke his mind.

Kagaku Gaku (president of the science club) was the next to speak. "Although I didn't get the chance to meet with him. My brother is always wrong when it comes to analyzing people, for that reason alone I think he is a good fit." Kagaku was the older twin sister of Shosetsu (president of the literature club), her voice was monotone as ever, like a robot, but she was sincere in her response, even if it doesn't seem like it.

The other presidents agreed with the notion that Kyoyota Arianagi had potential as the newest member of the student council.

"So far we have only one person who doesn't believe that Kyoyota Arianagi should not be the treasurer of the student council, if anyone else has concerns please explain them here and now." President Yuuki was the kind of person who wanted all opinions of others to be valid ones, wishing to work out any issues as they arise. On the contrary of this request, vice president Mado (VP of the literature club) spoke against their president's disagreements.

"May I please speak?" Mippei Mado asked.

"The floor is yours," the worried Yuuki said.

"I had a conversation about Arianagi with Shosetsu, I think that he has set the bar of expectations too high for Arianagi." She looked at Shosetsu, "you said it yourself, 'He is someone who shows promise at being a good fit for this school.' So don't go taking back those words before you see him actually fall short of your expectations." The VP said all of this quickly because she was nervous to be in a room with all the great's at Hanabira. She was out of breath, but it was a passionate defense.

"Thank you Mado, your words will be taken into account." Yuuki said before clapping her hands smiling, "Now everyone please close your eyes." Everyone in the room except president Yuuki closed their eyes, even the student council's own VP was not allowed to know who voted for which position regarding Kyo.

"Those who think Kyoyota Arianagi should remain the student council's treasurer please raise your hands. Those who don't keep your hands down." Everyone raised their hands. Fifty people, despite some of their worries, raised their hands, because Yuuki hand picked him for the position, Yuuki Hanami was considered the president of presidents, and this proved that. She looked around with a smile on her face as though to say, I knew you were the right choice Kyo.

"All votes are accounted for, this meeting is now adjourned, thank you for your time everyone." Everyone walked back to their club rooms, only Yuuki and Shino were left in the room.

"Yuuki, why did you hold this meeting only for him? None of us had to get approval from all the clubs."

"Because he has the hardest job of the entire student body, and will hold his position for the next three years unless something goes wrong. He has to meet and work with everyone more than anyone else does and for a longer period of time. This was also to confirm if Kyo can be HIS replacement."

The meeting itself only took ten minutes, and Kyo was told by president Yuuki to go home after school during lunch since he had done his job meeting with the necessary clubs and getting the list of items. By the time the meeting finished, Kyo had just arrived home, and started to get work and studying done before his hang out with Hiro tomorrow.

"I can't wait to tell him the good news." Yuuki said with a smile, before doing some paperwork and heading home herself.
