This caused no end of heartache for Newton's good friend, Dr Hermann, who had to endure the public displays of affection from the pair.
As for Li Yue, his life became monotonous once more. As a Jaeger pilot, his treatment was the envy of others. Unlike other pilots, including the original movie's protagonists, who had to train rigorously daily to stay in peak condition, Li Yue enjoyed special treatment. Knowing his immense strength—capable of defeating a level-five Kaiju even without piloting a Jaeger—General Pentecost and Lin Zhen Guo treated him like a mascot, exempting him from all training. Lin Yu Rou took care of his meals and daily life, and he had unrestricted access to the entire base.
This unique treatment caused discontent among those unaware of Li Yue's power, especially the hard-training Jaeger pilots. They even challenged Li Yue to a sparring match to test his strength. However, their training schedules left them no time to bother Li Yue, who was happy to enjoy his leisure.
Li Yue had no plans to go anywhere else. He had heard that the counterattack plan was being expedited to avoid detection by the aliens and was set to be implemented in a few days. He would be the primary candidate for delivering the nuclear payload, with the other Jaegers providing support.
Li Yue didn't mind this arrangement. He knew more about the aliens than what was shown in the video by Xiao Dai. The aliens, known as the Precursors, came from Anteverse. It was a lonely world with yellow skies, barren lands, no rivers, only rocky layers. The Precursors lived within these rocks and were a colonising species, expanding by invading other planets.
The Precursors had advanced poison chemistry and hyperspace technology, allowing them to create "breach" portals to connect their world to others for infiltration and attacks. They didn't just invade Earth but could attack multiple planets simultaneously. Their society was hierarchical, with higher ranks capable of creating more powerful Kaiju. The instability of the Pacific Rim breach meant they could only send one Kaiju at a time initially, using them to gather information on humanity while causing destruction.
Li Yue's arrival caused the space around Earth to become unstable, allowing the aliens to send three Kaiju at once, which surprised them. This instability likely resulted from the Space Stone affecting the world's fabric, leading to the merging of several worlds.
Determined to help humanity eliminate the alien threat, Li Yue planned to use the counterattack opportunity to pilot a Jaeger to the Kaiju homeworld and explore remotely. He believed he could quickly teleport back if things went awry.
