Prologue

Darkness loomed all over, like a blanket on cold winter nights. There was no warmth to feel but only the taste of bitterness and the touch of icy waters that scratched every inch of the skin. Poor eyes struggled to see as the sting pierced through up to the back of the head. Everything was an abysmal prison—a punishment for she knew not of what crime.

There was no aid, no mercy for her. She drifted under the sea, beating the currents with all her strength. But luck ran out, leaving the forlorn choice of surrendering to an inevitable death. Her white skin glowed amidst the dimness of the underwater. She slowly swayed with the waves, losing grip of her soul and the last hope of life. The poor maiden could only have tears for screams as the low light from above gradually blended with the darkness. Her long locks danced chaotically, completely complying with death. As the colour black closed in on her, one last whisper rang in her ears saying, "Athena… Athena… Be still." Before she fully closed her eyes and waved her white flag to fate.
