"Well, it's complicated because they're a family." I said in response.
Dorothy looked at me with a confused look when she heard this.
Seeing this, I explained, "Well, families are complicated because relationships between families are complicated. Take the two of us, we're family even though we're not blood related, right?"
Though I made sure to say this in a low voice so that no one else could hear us.
Dorothy slowly nodded in response.
"Well, then how would you feel if I were to suddenly change one day?"
Dorothy's expression changed, but it didn't seem like she was able to process what I said completely.
Even if she was a smart child, this was the kind of thing that she really understood with her lack of understanding of interpersonal relationships.
So she really couldn't seem to imagine what that would be like.
"Say that I become a drunk like that man one day, what would you think?"
A sad look appeared on Dorothy's face when she heard this.
