The night air was crisp, carrying the scent of rain-soaked earth and the distant murmur of wind brushing against the stone walls of Shadow Castle.
Most of the castle had gone to sleep, save for the flickering lanterns that were glowing softly along the halls. After a quiet dinner shared with her husbands, Seraphina found herself lingering in the corridor outside Raven's chambers.
She hesitated for only a breath before raising her hand and knocking gently.
The door opened almost instantly.
And he was standing there, dressed simply in a loose black shirt and soft trousers while his dark eyes glinted faintly in the dim candlelight. His expression was unreadable as always, though the faint crease of his brows softened when he saw her.
"Seraphina," he said in that low, ever-steady voice of his. "Can't sleep?"
She smiled while brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. "Actually… I wanted to ask you something."
