Chapter 9 - Trust

When all of them were dead I immediately teleported them into space where either they would float endlessly or be charred to a crisp upon reentering Earth's atmosphere. All this took less than five minutes. Once I teleported back to where Starfire was. I noticed she looked wary of me probably because of my casual massacre even though they were her enemies she didn't know if I was too. I approached her took off my mask knowing it was a gamble and told her.

"Don't worry your safe now no one will hurt you" I knew she couldn't understand me but I still felt the need to say that. She then spoke to me in an incomprehensible language. When she was done made a confused face and shook my head. Just when I was going to tell her I couldn't understand she suddenly closed the distance between us pressing her lips to mine. While I could have dodged the kiss using my superhuman reflexes I didn't because I knew why she was doing it and if everything worked out the way I hoped it would I would gain a powerful new ally. While I was thinking this I heard her voice this time in fluent English.

"Can you understand me now?" She questioned.

"Yes, I was saying that you're safe now but I don't know for how long anyone could be on the way that includes not-so-good people. I know we just met and I have a question to ask you"

"What is it?"

"Look I'm not asking for your complete trust but would you let me get you out of here?" I asked as I studied her face and waited for her answer. She hesitated for a moment but nodded her head.

"Ok, you have saved my life already I doubt you'd go out of your way to do that just to bring harm to me?"

"Good" I nodded, "We don't have much time left people could be on their way here right now. This might be a bit disorienting but bear with it" After my warning, I quickly grabbed her hand and we appeared in a spacious modern looking penthouse that I had recently bought. Starfire began looking around practically leaking curiosity. But I had to be quick.

"Stay here, I'll be right back" With that said I quickly teleported back to where both Starfire's and the Psions' spaceships were and teleported both to a location that no one would find before returning to the penthouse that was located in New York. Less than a minute had passed since I had left and I found Starfire staring out the floor-to-ceiling windows in awe as if she completely forgot she was injured.

"It looks even better at night but for now come sit down so I can treat your injuries"

"Oh, yes of course," she said as she sat down next to me and I began to treat her injuries.

"So, what should call you? I asked though I already knew the answer.

"My name is Koriand'r which in your language translates to Starfire, either is fine"

"I see it suits you. You have an aura about you that's hard to look away from it reminds me of the stars in the sky or a fire at night." I said offering my genuine thoughts. She seemed taken aback by what I said before quickly readjusting, but I didn't fail to notice the slight redness of her ears.

"Hmm I'll call you Starfire for now"

"And may I know my savior's name?" She asked as her pupilless green eyes looked into mine. 'My name huh' After thinking about it for a little. I figured that I had already shown her my face so I could at least trust her enough to give her my name seeing that trust was a two-way street.

"My full name is Alexander Vandra but you can just call me Alex"

"I see, Alex" She still looked haggard but there was a subtle smile when she repeated my name that didn't escape my eyes.

"So do you want to tell me how you ended up on earth and why those reptile-looking things were chasing you?" As soon she heard my questions like magic her face immediately turned sullen.

"You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to," I said putting my hand on her shoulder. Shaking her head softly she told me she was fine before slowly recounting the story of how she ended up here.

She told me how she was a princess from the planet Tamaran, and how they lived in peace and happiness until the Citadelians conquered her planet. She told me how when her older sister Komand'r was put in charge she sold her into slavery because of the jealousy she had for her growing up. I noticed the anger she had when talking about the Citadelians was somewhat lacking when talking about how her sister basically tried to make her a slave.

She continued her story by recounting how while she was being transported away from her home the ship she was on was attacked by another race called the Psions which I had taken care of. When she told me how she was captured and subjected to torturous experiments any guilty feeling I had for the dead Psions went out the window. Ironically it was these experiments that ended up giving her incredible powers. She used these new powers to project huge amounts of energy from her body giving her the opportunity to escape from her capturers.

Though not before being pursued through space and eventually crash-landing on Earth where she ended up meeting me. After telling me her story it seemed like a weight was lifted from her. Which made me relieved that she wasn't too traumatized.

Looking out the windows I realized that it was already late by the time Starfire had finished telling me her story.

"Alright let's get you cleaned up it'll make you feel better. I'll wash your dirty clothes and get you some new ones though I can't promise you how stylish they'll be. They're men's clothes after all but they'll be comfortable." She didn't respond so I just grabbed her hand and led her into the master bath.

I grabbed her a towel, and a loofah, and began checking the water temperature. When the temperature was perfect, I turned around only to see Starfire had removed her clothes holding them in her hands. I looked into her green pupilless eyes and saw no hint of embarrassment.

As neither one of us was the kind to be embarrassed over such things I quickly burned the image into my brain before offering her the simple praise of "You look great." She smiled and said "Thanks" I grabbed her clothes and left with a "You're welcome." The thought had crossed my mind to ask if she needed help but I didn't want to risk the rapport I'd built up so far plus I wasn't that desperate.

Once I threw her outfit into the wash, I started on making dinner. It was late but that was only on the east coast so if she wasn't too tired after dinner, we could go buy her some clothes that actually fit her.
