The Undercity of Sanctum was once full of smugglers, rats, and sewage. Now, it had become a petting zoo for the damned.
Mirabelle walked down the damp stone steps with a lantern in hand. Commander Varric followed close behind, gripping his sword and sweating even though the air was cold.
"The noise, Your Majesty," Varric whispered, flinching as a low, guttural roar echoed through the tunnels. "It keeps the men awake. It sounds like the earth is grinding its teeth."
"It sounds like security," Mirabelle corrected.
They reached the main cavern, a huge vaulted cistern that used to store the city's water. Now, it was home to the Night Parade.
It was a scene of chaotic domesticity.
Hundreds of nightmares lounged on the stone floor. Gloom-Stalkers, massive six-legged wolves with obsidian fur, gnawed on cow carcasses. Night-Gaunts perched on the ceiling's stalactites, grooming their leathery wings like bats.
In the center of it all sat Revas.
