Chapter 13 - 13. Start of the War

The war officially started two days ago and there was yet to be a movement from any opposing magi.

Waver stared at the old tv in his room, switching between his familiars to observe the situation while his servant brewed her potions in the background.

It was… strange. Unsettling even. According to the rules of the war if there was no clash for such a long time the church would intervene, however it was radio silence.

The young magi glanced at Rider, who was in her own world now, and sighed. He couldn't deny it, she was a top tier servant, but who has never heard about The Saint's Hand. His servant's shield was an incredibly recognizable part of her story, and it was smacked right in the middle of her right hand or to her back whenever she donned her armour.

Maybe… maybe he should stop being so passive? Sending her to fight and commanding from a distance seemed safe enough, and the genius doubted there were many servants on par with Angélique.

He chuckled to himself 'Imagine if another master somehow got their hands on Gilgamesh or a knight of the round table. Hehe. That would be absurd!', the magi shook away the thought. The catalyst for this caliber of a hero would be impossible to get.

Just as this thought came to his mind, a sudden yell of pain came from one of his familiars, the one stationed near the Tohsaka residence.

Quickly focusing its view Waver saw a black figure with its hand pierced by a giant spear.

Zooming out the video feed to get a better view, the young magi noticed a figure in golden armor, and then the countless weapons sticking out of gates all around him.

"You dirty little worm."

And in that moment, it was over. Waver didn't even have the time to blink before, what he presumed from the descriptions was an assassin servant, was obliterated into nothingness.

The magi's heart dropped, 'Who in their right mind summoned such a monster?'.

"Well, that's certainly some firepower." His Servant chimed in, watching from over his shoulder, "Nothing my shield can't handle though." She smiled, "Allons, master, je m'en occupe."

As her maître worried unnecessarily, Angélique stared at the screen and the golden figure. It was, without a shadow of a doubt, the King of Heroes Gilgamesh in the spiritron flesh. She… Well, she never fought him head on, but her mind flashed to the man in a red shroud who was capable of bringing the Summerian King to a standstill.

The Rider Servant was nowhere near this versatile unfortunately.

She glanced at the brewing pot in the corner of the room. The show that the master of Gilgamesh threw was probably an attempt at intimidation, but for her it was a cue to finally get on the offensive.

"Rider.", Waver stared at his servant who suddenly brought him onto the Fuyuki bridge, "What are we doing?"

Truth be told, the young magi was terrified of the height they now stood in, clinging to the side

of his servant.

It was half an hour ago when the French knight suddenly summoned her horse while on a

stroll and grabbed the genius by the collar. Since then they were both sitting at the metal

arch of the Fuyuki bridge, staring at the docks.

Angélique looked at her maître, studying his face.

He sememed… entirely clueless, even though the massive beacon of magical energy the servant there exuded was almost visible to her eye.

'Is that the difference between the modern magi and the ones of my times?', Rider thought to herself, 'Francesco would probably be able to shape the signal from this distance into goofy shapes if he wanted to.'

With a quiet sigh she unbuckled a potion and splashed it onto the eyes of her maître. It was a small thing used on the more trusted soldiers during the 100 year war to allow them a chance in fighting a magi. Nothing special, really.

After sputtering for a bit, the young genius opened his eyes and then widened them. The previously unperceivable magical energy was suddenly visible to his naked eye.

The expression of pure, unadulterated shock spread on his face, his gaze turned to the servant at his side, "Rider, this… This is incredible! I could probably receive a degree just from this recipe! So many magi would kill to have a potion like that!"

'If I had this… If I had this Kayneth would choke on his words about incompetent magi from young families!'

His servant just smiled at his excitement.

Just as the magi opened his mouth to pester the servant about the recipe (it did not work the last 20 times), a new beacon of magical energy clashed with the first one.

It was a servant battle.

Angélique took a good look in the direction and nudged her maître a little.

It has been a long time since she was summoned, and the Rider servant was slightly etching for a fight.

And with Alaya not monitoring her every move she finally could loosen up a bit and enjoy a playful skirmish.

On the other hand Waver froze at the sight of the battle. He could tell that a bounded field was placed over the docks to block any civilians from entering and magical energy from leaking, but it just couldn't contain the prana at all. The beacon of magical energy was such an oppressive view that the young genius could only stare in morbid amazement.

The servants didn't even seem to release their true names and the warmth of the energy sometimes hit the magi in the face even on the bridge.

As Rider nudged him, Waver turned to face the servant.

'Is-is she as much of a monster as these guys down below?'

Meanwhile his servant was also as amazed as her master, 'So that's what a servant with a proper maître can achieve. Stingy counter-force.', Rider clicked her tongue.

It was her first time watching a proper fight between two contracted servants and it was phenomenal. Angé stared at the beacon of magical energy just barely restraining herself not to go there and gather some for her potions. It was a calling stronger than her.

"R-Rider, you aren't thinking of third-partying them, are you?" Waver asked cautiously, watching the expression of his servant. The young magi was honestly scared now as the knight almost vibrated in place next to him.

But before the answer came, a majestic mane of a blue stalion came into the young genius's view.

"Oh no."
