“Tell me Keiko, what do you feel when you touch this tree?” A sweet and silky voice speaks softly to a young girl enthusiastically chasing a butterfly. “Come now, please pay attention!” She lightly scolds the girl, as she speaks a language common to the region, that they both understand.
At the rise of her mother’s voice, the girl immediately turns her attention to her and ceases her playing. She obediently approaches the tree and places her hands on it, the rough bark scratching her fingers. She closes her eyes and silently allows the various sensations to manifest around her.
“I feel…energy. Not like a flame, but a current flowing beneath the surface. I feel it within this tree, beneath the grass and even in the air all around us. It has no form to manifest itself, yet I can feel it’s there. It somehow feels like it’s being drawn into my fingers, almost as if I can touch it.”
