Chapter 219 - Fields of mutation

Crossing the human world as an undertaker is simple. She sits on the old stone wall between public path and field of old farmhouse. She staring idly of the wheat stalks bending strange like fingers and the not tree at the field centre. She has already guessed that this was a very lush version or a framers version of 'the flower field'. Instead of thorn bushes and meat fruit. This was a variant that makes apocalyptic access to wheat. She was making documentation of this variant alone.

"Can't my trip get any better?" A demon is hosting inside that human and are very synchronized as one person. She doesn't acknowledge them, only making record of the dead in that fields soil. Including death god vessels, so she was very interested in this. There been way to many hired death gods then needed. Although this toll of missing souls is a good reason for this situation.

"Vesper!" Shouted among the group travel the worn briddle path and was a member that knew Raven. They pushed the demon guy away from her and came forwards. Removing a pouch of stones with left hand. A long stare match follows, a soft fluster of no soul exchange here. Vesper looked at the kid that clearly doesn't know these stones are a version of souls. Even still. Offered at freely. Left hand takes the pouch.

"What do you want in exchange?" Accepted the pouch so there is a trade off. The member looked around at the current group and made a sort of worried gesture. Vesper understands there was a few not human things about the group and was likely not invited. A long study of each hunter in the current walking pack, it wasn't anything humans should be afriad of. She shifted eye types, thus changing veiw types and figured that this was something to be addressed. It has been following them around for a bit. The last notes she needed documents in her research at hand. She leans claws the souls out of the field, leaning over the field wall without care for those behind her, taking those underneath the mutant. She puts them through her for now, as she stands normal enough.

"Interesting little crowd." She agreed about the sort of beings that made this travel crew. She makes sure she is kit up to walk with them. She picked a seed that the feild brushed off the one that hired her. Picked off a lot of stuff that was going to harm the human eventually. The lad ease walking beside her and looking about as a few that think his crazy. The demon kid was staring the most uncomfortable about this, as if a plan just been ruined.

At least the English countryside is looking exactly the same as it always did, from the safe distant that long balleys give. Patchwork shapes blankets of vast rolling dipping hills. Just changed the plants, density of growth forestry and survival of the observed food. There still 'birds' and the occasional 'hedgehog', 'fox' or maybe it was a 'badger'. There was a glimpse of a hybrid 'wolf' part 'fox' over the side of a fence, it avoided them as much they are of it.

She has sharper senses, and yet hears like an undertaker. She hears creatures clearly and no distractions of environment sounds. She can hear the tree move but not the water brook that bubbles along side the briddle way. She counted spikes of beating heart in the 'not human' that is walking at the back of the group. It has refused the tarmac of an old human road, got left behind in such reasons.

They used the old public walks through into a small forest, it is an old standing spot of trees that was protected as public greenery. They are following the gravel made path as intended. They had to stop as a screaming cow mutant was running for its life away from a man eating tree. The tree crept past them on whipping root ball system with single minded on the mutant cow. They see the prey and predator leave the forest and continue past into a field. Plenty stare at the trees around them with more fear. Walking closer as a clump.

A small creek with stepping stones is next. Nothing scary as the cow but the fish are watching for a mistake. Unfazed by the properties of water, she aides those that belong across. Even the demon possessed human. They waited as she turned facing the water. Speared a few not fish things with a abnormal bronze pole. She did this for hell rivers, so this human world one isn't different for her. She collected the prized items. She did spear a living world fish in interest. She carries it with deep inspection. Injuries as this fish is, able to escape. It did. Rolls off her flat hand and crawls back to the creek behind. It was snatched by a 'bird' before making it to the water.

"Why?" They were leaving the forest creek gravel path to a main road, western direction is following it into a settlement. Fencing with solar panels and electricity. The guy that is watching this access shouted this one question. He was pointing at her, "In what realm are you made from?" Gun aimed.

"Good question." She softly nods. Arms folded at her front and she steps aside with letting the humans that are be allowed in. She soon sits down. Cross legs on the floor, waiting. The demon fella made inside. Another fake thing was gunned to death on the spot.

The humans had ton of trades to hand exchange with the settlement. She stays seated, not needing entry. She instead began creature analysis on the dead thing that they shot, making a new page entry of the discovery new specie of pretending things. She did this often enough that a tape measure was out and other measuring methods are being used. The watcher stare bewildered but left her alone. Clearly she respected the fact that there was peace and he will respect that manners. She pushed the corpse to the ditch of dead things. She leaned looking at the ditch of the things eating the corspes. She catalogs them too.

"Trade places Steven." The watch rotation.

"The girl with a hole in her torso is a talker. She also for now is harmless if we don't threaten her." He warns to the next guy. They swapped places. The new guy is bored and wasn't long trying to figure out what she was doing. Tip toes to look about her.

He focused, he heard something she didn't. He trained the gun at the open path, eyeing the approaching next wave of something or someone. She sits up and perched on a good spot. The gaurd stood attention with gun trained as small city car with a hitch hook up pulls to the fence. The driver seat is empty. In fact the car, is 'the thing'. No humans inside. He frowns wary and not sure how to handle a haunted car.

"Benny!" A human came out of the settlement with woven basket of trade goods. They put the basket in the pull hook up area. The car must have horn honked or some engine sound. The person beams in delight and waved the huanted car away. It reversed, straighten and left.

"AI powered car is self aware to drive itself wherever it wants. Noted." She sees there is a whole dedicated tome for ai and the bodies they swap between. She finished her own encounter notes and looked up to the next approaching thing to the settlement. She stares pondering the nature of the freak, but the humans can't see it. It sees her, sees she tracks it and shivered as it walked through the physical fence as it thin air, unchallenged. She thinks about this odd being and concluding that it is a guardian of the land or a vessel of a god.

She was comfortable watching either the ditch, the road or the watch man doing something. The vessel guy left the way it came, eyeing her as it passes with fear. She considered soul checking it. But given it was leaving and nothing alert seems wrong at the settlement.

"Vesper, can I borrow you attention on something?" Return of the kid that got her here. She shurgs from her spot and eyes the watch man. He gave a wave that she can. She got down, dusts off and walks smoothly into the place.

Three folks lay dead at the middle of the green. This is a sort of market spot but not market day today. She steps closer and then noticed these bodies are alive. But soulless. She stares into each eyes with checking for sure. She stands up right and took out a tome. It was an old style, manual flick pages and eyes search each segment. She stops to the three named on it. She close the tome and it was put back in her clothing.

"Soul dead. They haven't souls." She states and this was acceptable answer to everyone. They look as if this was a normal occurrence, "I should have stopped the creep that passed by. Sorry." She softly bows apologizing. The settlers didn't get it but the one that knew her does. Wafted that she isn't to be to modest about it. Their local religious guy came over, does a prayer. This prayer sent souls into the empty bodies. She backed away respecting the holy aspects of this. She softly steps going back.

"Don't you dare." A sword poking her shoulder blade.

"I was going back to watching the corpse ditch outside your village." She shows open empty hands. The suspicious villager eyes into the mask eyes and slowly back down. Letting her go back to the fence. The watcher was being swapped and he said something about her.

She liked her perch spot and openly removed a leather worn journal book and a coal stick. She sits comfortably and set to sketch the area and the abnormalities that could be current living world mutants.

"Thanks for the exchanges." The lad waves as he came here, "You want to find him, right?" She shrugs of this, "He would love to have you back around. Even if you're different again."

She puts away the leather. She was deeply considering it, regardless if he did or not. She settles with letting the universe do the thing it always does. Use fate or omens to make her findable. Otherwise, she just a ghost part mutant or a broken undertaker with abyss issues. The kid had said his piece and wasnt sure of the lacking expression or strange body language. He sighed, took out his crystal device and sent a message. He noticed that it was read and ignored.

"Are you going to meet up or you heading onwards? Wherever the onwards is exactly." She posed left hand open with cross arm. A very straight blank Greek theater drama mask.

"We are meant to meet in the safe zone city North from here. I am taking the safe merchant walk, exchange for supplies. Its the sort of fee needed to be allowed visitation on the outskirts." She soft posed her hand in that being a good idea.

"North from here... I will take a interesting way there." She looks about the environment, "I am interested in the dangerous things." The human wafted that she was on her own for that. She eyes the sort of 'luck' they will have until the next time she will meet them. She sees the fate threads of multiple times she will be seeing this kid. There wasnt a good bye or the other notions of finality. Simply leaving her be at the wall. She watched their back will until they were out of sight. The village watch has stopped seeing her, stopped viewing her presence and accepting she was scenery.

Her abyss senses flared, she could shadow reach into the depths of places that aren't human reach. She has already guessed a short cut for spirit types to use. In her mind, Undertakers can't use cars and time isn't experience like the living does. But the rifts that humans arent aware of are the answer to this issue. The ditch of dead things has a rift to an afterlife zone, likely a purgatory or natural dead soul well. Cities have a few dead soul wells. She suspects this one could take her directly to the city. The part of herself that is a mist has already confirmed she can make it across this rift way.

So before she moved on. She does go into the village for a few trade exchanges. On the accepted visitors hours that allows market day set up. Her wood carvings, warding paper talisman and pop culture memorabilia was very soon out of stock. She gains wheat grains, rations of human food bits and village materials that she could craft into her next venture. She respected that she isnt welcomed, and the person that made her tolerated was gone.

She left with a woven basket hung off her right arm. Covered in loose hung ethereal materials, loosing her physical physique and back as a cryptic soul shape walker. She chooses to go without a visible face, adding to the creeping judging factor that will keep the native living world soul eaters from attraction to her.

She didn't leave the human way, but instead straight into the corpse ditch. Army crawls climb into the subterranean 'creature bypass'. A literal small crawl space that reek of gore is pouring into the underground water table lake. There is a natural stone gravel filters, the strange bugs eating the decay and a dangerous human killing bacterial mould. Definitely a death trap for living people. However the turth is, this is a natural cavern. They are made from the glacier ice age melt, even millions of years ago has left these traces. These were here long before humans and will be here long after humans. The ecosystem had already established itself and likely turned even more deadly as adapted with the nurturing process of decay.

She creeps tight shaft ways, loose rock slides and abundance of cave life among spiritual beings. She isnt a physical being, no dirt or living world materials is clinging on her. She got to a standing posture, as the ceiling give way to space. Space created by the plant monsters. She spies the ceilings of this natural dirt for the root system of the human eating plants. She excavated remains for personal items to report lost dead. She logs onto the system found crystal hunter tags. Some recent and others are only 2 years old. The meat eating plants are a new development and is being attacked underground by the cave animals. She already observed glowing worms that are damaging the core of the nerve balls. The meat plants arent going to last forever, she makes documentary of this discovery. She makes sketches, not photographs. She moved on, slowly.

Trekking the cavern meant she was collecting gemstone minerals, unique animal species specimens and fresh natural filtered water. She made scratch marks warning dangers and a legacy that said she been here. Gladly, she was observing the living world in close attention. Her undertaker senses told her this space was dead end, no escape. She watched a mutant from the surface crawl a ledge and disappeared. She followed it, making a dangerous gamble and paying off with exiting to open air.

She didn't fully exit out of the hole, her upper body was out but her legs jams the exit. Gripping the sides of the crawl tunnel for perching. Her senses told her there was a lot of mutants ahead, and they arent afriad of her. They know she's here.

"Damn, has England became Florida. The logs have eyes." She snarls at the seemingly "empty" mub pit. If there was water, 'logs' would be floating the surface. The logs are black bark, with red flesh underneath. One is snapped in half, with blue marble vein work. These logs have a mat black flattened gore socket that looks like where a branch was robbed off. That socket is either a big eye deal or a unique temperature sense. She did consider them being plants, eating sun light. But she stopped at the hole entry because the logs rolled to watch her. One split itself from a hidden seam... it is a jaw trap. Like the meat eating trees. But smaller, floaty and adapted for swamp meadows wetland. She edged debate to crawl back down.

The bird that helped her find this entry was circling. She watched it take a sweep, talons crunched into a log. That log was dead instantly. Gore slops across the flight path. The logs all in unison freaked out. All the jaws opened, trying to eat the bird and the fellow log remains that is raining from above. The bird has caught its prey, flying lazy path. It is eating during flight. Glides and eating during flight. There is gore remains dropping, feeding the logs. There is a lot of chomping, its all she can hear. Undertakers hear living creatures like humans do. These things count.

She stares at the nearest log, it has its eye on her. It is shivering. It has a serious strong emotion of horror about her. She only tilts her featureless face and it was shaking. It was doing everything to get out of her way. It managed to loosen out of the mud cake and does all sorts of jaw snaps to flee faster. Leaving a wake of more afraid logs. She finds herself alone. The bird flies circling and instead of catching another log. It screams and the whole area was turning into still scenery.

"I wonder if their understanding of anatomy is why they are afraid of me." She got out the crawl hole and lands smoothly in the mud. She fixed her appearance, not that there was much to adjust. No dust or dirt. Just moved her materials back to 'harmless'. She takes measure of the land around her for the nearest human life she can reach. This was easy, now that the monsters here are pretending to be dead.

She looks like she was having a pleasure walk across deadly things. She got herself onto a lost footpath, she found the marks for the peak district trails. She wasnt exactly sure until a mill stone marker was at the entry into a village settlement. It is a settlement that boarders a bubble habitat like structure. Which when her crystal gained location network connection, this was a city safe zone.

She was walking gentle, right up to a defence fencing that blocked this being an entry near the settlement. She stopped short, assessment that this wasn't to get in and turned walking around the fencing to find the way. She volted over a concrete barrier that clearly made part of the motorway.

"What the" a gun shot rings, shppting through the gap of her torso. Both sides stood very still. She clearly looked down at the 'missed shot. The shooter looks green, pale even. She pats with seeing the hole through her clothing, checking the repairable damage. She gives a soft little nod about this, knowing it will be ok. She 'looks' back up, the man shivering with a tighter grapple. She poses hands of surrender, and he was fighting his senses to shoot again.

"Put a face on!" Shouted among a gathering of people stood back watching. The guy looks at them and back to her. She softly shows her right hand to pose, the materials magnetically pull into a a floating clay mist. Softly she clasped and a solid white plate of no features came about. The gun man targets her with fear. She shakes the plate and features are put i to the plate. Eyes. A lip line. Human? No. Clothus? Close. Creep, yes.

"She's safe." Someone approached, and forced him to lower the gun. She puts the face on and softly shows palms once more.

"Excuse me, are you my creep of a wife?" She studies the cold gaze and the locked jaw of someone trying to not hold on hope. Her mask softly makes a warm smile and she lowered her hands. She pats about and then removes from a fold as a pocket. A scale that its the length of a tail feather of the 'bird'. He stares between her and the scale feather. He face palms, because that was exactly the answer he expected.

"Is she going to eat us?" Someone new face askes.

"She eats soul language. Not flesh, materials or soul." Raven huffed, "The only threat she poses is what things do in fear of her." He sunk his head, "And the things that she's made freinds with." He wipes his face, and started walking to her. Everyone is watching him like his mad.

She tilts watching him and lowered to all fours. She shook her material body to swap shells. She was into her hybrid, undertaker shape. More animalistic then human. This felt more natural. She offered the feather with left hand held out. He steps in attack range. Looking at the feather in her out reached hand.

"I don't like the logs with eyes. The wheat feild was interesting. The corpse dwellers aren't smart." He heard her saying this, and for a while was likely trying to translate the crazy. He takes the scale feather. He looks at the direction he knows she came from, staring at the distance of the wetlands. He must have seen the bird reptile flying there, not hard to miss a massive reptile eating logs in the sky. He felt the scale that she gifted him, back at her sitting there.

"Anything worth collecting from your trip here?"

"A lot. I was considering a return trip. I think I want skin some logs for the leathers." He softly nods at that reply, pockets the scale. He offered his right hand at her, "So human of you. You offerings me a right hand. So trusting."

"Hearing you tell me that is exactly why I trust you." He poses it eagerly. She gladly gave her right hand over, purring. He forces her into human stance. She adjusted, she hugs over him. Dance walking steps, more that it seems she cling to him completely. He reached around her underneath, one arm lift carried her to the group. She giggle purrs letting him.

For everyone else, it is crazy to see a grown man carry a lady the same size as him with ease, with one arm hugged under her arse. However, do consider that she is an undertaker in physique. She is a clay shell puppet of human proprietary design, with some hidden limb adjustment. She weighs nearly a fourth of what she would as a human. She is a living clay garden statue, hollow inside and fragile. Yet strong. Exactly like an egg shell. You could walk over eggs without breaking them, but place them sideways and you have a mess.
