Jirawut and Jarngerd watch Lord Bataar from the shadows of the dais. He stood before his throne, surrounded by his hirdmen, dressed in rich purple robes embroidered with golden thread. His white hair was braided in two long locks and held in place by a gold circlet set with a garnet.
Lord Bataar looked to be the picture of power and control. Yet there was a part of him that never quite felt comfortable. Something about his face, his posture, or his mannerisms revealed him to be hiding something.
They watched for a long time and saw a girl carry a thing outside a house, then went inside.
"Do you think that's his daughter?" Jarngerd asks.
"She looks young," Jirawut said.
"Who knows? Maybe he has another wife. Or maybe his family lives elsewhere."
"I have a plan," Jirawut replied.
"Tell me,"
"waiting for a girl to walk outside her home, I will go out and talk with her." Jirawut smiled. "I hope she is pretty."
"What are you going to do?"
