"I must admit, I like this far less than I thought I would," Amri's voice shook as she was carried up the gentler slope of Mt. Dakun, fighting off vertigo.
Despite the late spring, there was still snow in the shadows of some crevices and trees, which Zai had to avoid. Twice Zai had to recover as patches of rock gave way under the thin layer of soil that coated the mountain. And the clouds were promising rain and lightning in the distance, heading their way. Amri actually hoped it would rain. She loved the sounds and smells, but didn't want to get wet.
She was dressed in some sort of civilian uniform, identifying her as a member of the Revolution. The simple brown blouse and slacks hugged her a bit tightly, but still far better than Captain Zai's uniform had. Remembering that day made her shake her head to avoid the memory, and she'd had more than one nightmare of Sergeant Lorn's death over the last couple of nights.
