Before walking away Dagen looked at his chain mechanism. He saw a laminated tag hanging on a thread below it. Curious, he lifted it to see what it said.

'My code is Blue? Well that's lame. So that's why that tall bastard called me blue. How did they know I was a hunter? Creepy.'

Yanking it off the wall, Dagen decided to take it with him. He didn't even know why he wanted to take it, it just felt right.

Looking over at Varins chain mechanism, Dagen saw a similar tag dangling below it. Curiosity grabbed hold of his mind, but before he could read it, Varin started down the left of the hallway. Not wanting to be left behind, Dagen ripped Varins tag off and started to follow him.

However, as soon as he came upon the cell that was next to his, Dagen paused. In it was another subject, laying in the back corner. The sight of it gripped Dagens heart in pity and dread. This poor soul, while still humanoid in shape, was anything but. This creature was covered in lizard-like scales, with pieces of human skin still in the process of falling off. Spikes were growing all over its body, some twisting back into its skin. It's fingers webbed together. The front of its face elongated, with coned teeth sticking out of its upper lip. A metal muzzle, keeping its mouth shut.

Upon seeing him, the scaled beast lunged at him with wild eyes and a viscous growl. Abruptly jerked back by its chains, the beast made a pained whimper and backed off a bit.

'Oh my gods.'

Dagen looked at the tag to this cell.

Almost at the door, Varin turned to say something to Dagen, only to find that his escape partner was far behind him and gawking at his twisted side cell neighbor.

"What the fuck man let's go!"

Looking around at the other cells, sadness lurked behind Dagens eyes.

"What about the others? Is there nothing we can do for them? It feels wrong to just leave them in this hell."

Utterly annoyed at his escape partners delay over an unnecessary concern and unachievable thought, Varin grumbled:

*ugh* "Just leave them!"

"I took a glance at them as I walked by. All of them are either beasts that would immediately try to kill us or still human enough for me to realize that their souls are broken. They have nothing behind their eyes, they're just hollow shells of people."

"And maybe, just maybe they could be fixed, but right now we don't have the luxury of being able to worry about others."

"So move your ass!"

Dagen understood how stupid and useless wanting to help them was, even he could tell that there was no way someone could come back from something like this. But still, leaving them to rot in this hell didn't sit right with him. They are/were people!

With a sad, pained expression, Dagen followed Varin to the door.

"We're just going to assume that there are at least 2 guards behind this door. If that assumption is right, I'll give you a thumbs up."

"I'll take the lead and go for the one on the right. I want you to go for the one to the left, if there is one. Try to take him out as quickly and quietly as possible."

"You Ready?"

With a determined expression, Dagen gave a nod to signal that he was ready. As ready as he'd ever be, at least.

Slowly cracking open the door, Varin saw a guard standing on the right, he couldn't see to the left without opening the door too much and just decided to assume that there was another guard to the left, standing ready with their dart guns. There weren't any other guards in the hall as far as he could tell.

Not taking his eye off the guard, Varin gave a thumbs up behind the door. Dagen tensed in anticipation, readying the rock. He suddenly felt a chill run down his spine as Varin flung open the door.

Flinging the door open as fast as he could, Varin springed out with impressive speed. The makeshift blade in his left hand met the right guard's neck right as the guard started to turn to see what was coming at him, but too late. Varin covered the man's mouth as he fell, making sure he didn't spew blood everywhere trying to scream.

The guard to the left swiveled around and pointed his gun at Varin. As soon as the barrel saw his target the guard pulled the trigger.

'Called it!'

Accounting for this possibility, Varin swung behind the right guard and held his mouth as they fell, using him as a shield.

All this happened so fast that Dagen couldn't react until he saw the barrel of the gun peek around the doorway, hearing it fire.

'Shit!'

Dagen grabbed the gun's barrel with his left hand and jerked it up, simultaneously side stepping out the doorway. His right hand slammed the concrete into the guard's temple, making his head bounce off the wall. The guard's face froze in shock before slumping to the floor.

Seeing the guard hit the floor, Dagen spun around to see if Varin was still conscious only to find that he was perfectly fine… well, as fine as he was in the cell hall. He stood up from behind the right guard and grinned at him.

"Not bad. A little slow, but all in all, not bad."

"Let's drag them into the cell hall before we're spotted."

Hooking their arms under the guards shoulders, they huffed and grunted as they pulled them in and closed the door.
