I held Zade in my arms while he slept against me. His body was heavy and muscular, his toned arm slung around my waist as if he had no plans of ever letting me go. Every few minutes, he shifted in his sleep slightly, burying himself deeper into my body and his face into my neck with a faint whimper that made my chest ache.
I couldn't tell if those sounds came from the pain still clinging to his head or because he was simply too comfortable nestled against me—against my soft body that seemed to cradle him like a pillow.
God, I hoped it was the latter.
Minutes stretched out like forever, and I didn't care. I just held him, my arms wrapped tightly around the best thing in my life, the love of my life, lying helplessly and comfortably against me. My burn still stung faintly, but honestly? It was worth it. Worth every second of pain, just for this—this moment where Zade was mine to hold, mine to keep safe, even if only for a little while.
