Jordan didn't blink. "He wasn't working for a rival. He wasn't a whistleblower. He wasn't even a misguided fan."
He sipped again.
"He did it because of ego. Because he wanted to prove he could break something sacred. He wanted to bring you down. In his mind, you were the cheat code. The dev's son. The symbol of unfairness."
Allen looked down at his tea. His reflection wobbled slightly in the liquid. "He didn't even know me."
"Didn't matter," Jordan said. "He projected his inferiority onto you. And tried to destroy you for it."
Emma was quiet. She picked at the edge of a napkin, lips tight.
Jordan's voice was calm, but final. "The world is full of people like that, Allen. They don't want to build anything. They don't want to win fairly. They want to pull down whatever's standing tall. Just to feel taller themselves."
Allen didn't argue.
He couldn't.
Because deep down, he knew it was true.
