It's been three days since my first taste of human blood. Or so I thought, the craving was all-consuming; there was no chance of resisting once I started. I killed, and I killed and killed again.
Eventually, I would come down from the high for a time. But being in the city with all the constant smells and surrounded by other freshly made vampires made it a struggle to stay focused for long.
Often, they would return home with blood still on them from their kills. It was not uncommon for this to cause a fight on the spot. Every day, it was a fight to survive. It was a battle to see who would be on top.
It was only barely contained by Riley.
Though that merely implied when he was here. It has only been three days, but at least one of us would be torn to shreds before the night was done. The only reason we have not killed one another yet is how sturdy vampires were.
For example, the vampire whose head I ripped off. He was still walking around like nothing had happened. Luckily, he had been too intimidated to challenge me again, but I kept my eye on him all the same.
On that note, I kept an eye on everyone, as you never know who would come at you next. There were only five of us now, but I heard whispers that they were gonna start making more as our enemy was large.
I mostly tried not to call attention to myself. Preferring to stay in the corner of the room rather than join the others. So I only got whispers from the five others with me. The thought that they would add to our number made me nervous because violence was only barely contained now.
I had only made it through the past three days due to my special ability. I had learned from Riley on my first day that some vampires have special powers, and I was to report to him if I discovered I had one or saw one of my coven mates use one.
Unfortunately for me, my power was powerful, and I was caught almost immediately when I used it to defend myself from the other members of our coven. Who thought me easy prey. The best way I could describe it is the ability to make others fall asleep.
It was like a muscle I never used before flexed, and the next thing I knew, the vampire attacking fell limp in my arms.
She started snoring, totally relaxed in my grip. I still wished I could have kept it a secret in case of an emergency, but a least it got the messages across that I wasn't to be messed with.
Riley told Victoria the moment she returned that night. It gave me the creeps the way she praised it. There was a slight craze in her eyes that made my stomach turn. For the life of me, I didn't know what Riley saw in her.
I probably could have, like Riley, if she weren't in the picture. Although we haven't been together long, I could tell he was a kind person under all that false bravado. But the need to impress her was all that mattered to him.
I heard the other gossip about them being mates. Which I guess is like dating in the vampire world?
Enough about romance, I need to find a way out of here before those two lunatics get me involved in a war I didn't start. I could figure the rest out when I was safe.
I need to find somewhere safe to hide, as I'm sure they will come after me now that they know of my special power.
I wish I could just use my ability to put them all asleep and then kill them all, but I still wasn't very good at using it on command. Most likely, at least one of them could kill me before I finished the job.
There was also the question of even if I were able to escape, where would I go? When my ability manifested, Riley had told me about his ability with tracking. He didn't go into specifics, but if he was telling the truth, there was nowhere I could run to that he wouldn't be able to find.
I considered killing him before I escaped, so he couldn't track me, but with him being mated to the crazy redhead. It made me scared to think of what she might do if I killed him. I didn't want to be looking over my shoulder all my life.
I let out a sigh, still deep in thought.
"Hey, you." A vampire said as he approached me.
I growled at him from where I stood a few steps away. "Victoria wants to see you," he hissed, getting into a defensive position.
I nod and wait for him to leave before I move to find Victoria. I dread every step as I get closer. When I get there, Riely is standing behind her, glaring at me. His eyes were black with rage.
Nervous, I stumble over my words. "Y-you ask for me?" She nods, smiling viciously as she leans over to kiss Riley. "Don't worry, you're still my favorite." She said, smiling at him, though that smile never reached her eyes.
"I have a job for you, I want you to be our lookout as we," she paused before continuing, " examine the defences of the Cullens." She walks to me, placing her hand on my cheek.
"With your special ability, I'm sure you can handle yourself for a little while, right?" She was so close, staring into my eyes.
My mind was spinning, trying to find some reason I could use to refuse. But before I could even voice my refusal, her hand slid from my cheek to my neck. Her eyes turn cold and black as she squeezes down on my throat.
Too scared to speak, I nod ruffly. She let go upon my admission. She walks back to Riley before going over the plan.
