I was studying the dao of Isekai/system martial arts/cultivation novels for today's discussion/rambling... ye that's totally the reason... anyway as the chapter title implies I will be talking about slow power growth and fast growth in ( mostly cultivation/martial arts/system/Isekai) novels, because why not.
So I don't know to start so let's get straight into it, what's the difference between slow power growth and fast growth, well to put it simply one is slow the other is fast...

Okay so I don't think that'll be enough for most of you, so to be more specific, novels that have fast growth are usually really popular with new readers, there can be many reasons why but I think that it is that way because most of the time new readers want action and strong mc imedietly, they want to place themselves in their shoes and imedietly become the most powerful charters in that story, that partially why it's called a power fantasy and I am guilty of reading a lot of them when I was new, and I still do read them sometimes.
Another reason might be because they don't want to invest a lot of time in seeing the mc become powerful, because powerful equals "good story"
thats exactly where I think people get confused, just because it's entertaining doesn't mean it's a good story at least I'm my opinion, but who am I to say, I read Isekai trash and comeback for more, 95% of what I read is Isekai...
Anyway, unlike fast power growth, I have seen that most of the readers who have been reading webnovel for a longer time, or those who are above level 3, enjoy reading slow growth more. Some even don't pick up a novel that has less than 200 chapters, and personaly I like this type of growth more.
Slow power growth might not be as "entertaining" to new readers as fast growth, but it's more enjoyable to older ones. It is more rewarding to see someone struggling or taking a long time to grow stronger, fast power growth takes away the meaning of hard work while slow growth enriches it. Sure fast growth is entertaining but it's not as rewarding, and it gets less entertaining the more you read it. Most of the time it feals like all the mc has to do is find a mystical treasure that their conveniently missing every five chapters, and they always do with absolute ease. After reading enough novels it becomes samey, but that's just a general webnovel problem, but there are some that feal unique.
Usually fast growth is more popular among readers, so if you want to grow quickly that's what I would suggest, but it might be tough because there is a lot of competition in that power growth type and usually the readers will quit after 40 or so chapters and move on too other power fantasys that have stronger mc's or just try to find something different but with the same power growth.
On the other hand, slow growth is less popular, requires better writing and is hard to keep it entertaining without good pacing, but readers are usually more loyal to those kind of story's and find more satisfying when mc becomes stronger.
