Chapter 14 - AND AWAY WE GO!!

"Um... Emily, you never told me how you survived my spell," I started as we geared up for our first quest.

By now, a week had already passed and we were all getting ready to go to the unexplored planets. Unfortunately, we had to come to terms with what the principal had suggested cause, as of right now, it was mandatory for every student to participate in this practical. How else were the students supposed to gain experience in the battle field?

"Tis but a sad story," she began her explanation.

I stopped her before she could continue, "Don't talk like that,"

"Don't talk like what?"

"The medieval times. Anyways, continue,"

"Fine then. Truth be told, I was a goner in that scary spell of yours were it not for the orb that you took from me. It used up all of its mana and lifeforce to protect me and, heal me of all my injuries before it disintegrated,"

"Really? Only that? That's some orb you had there. But you also could be lying and used some other type of method to escape that spell,"

"But I''m not! I said I'd try to earn your trust, and this is the start. Remember, we're are on the same side now,"

"Now I know one of us is delusional. We are not on the same side, and we never will be. Do well to remember that," I said as I finally fitted in my combat boots. Emily said nothing more and just kept quiet. Guess that's the end of our conversation.

Currently, we were still in class, meaning that Arnold wouldn't be able to join with us, seeing that he was from North. Everyone in class at the moment, were grouping themselves with their friends and talking tactics for the practical, with some good armor on them.

Unfortunately, some of us had to manage without standard armor as we had no one to buy us that much. I was too ashamed to ask Arnold for a little help considering he had already done so much, so I had to make due with the minimum the school provided.

But Bareth and Blade looked well off as both had acceptable armor. For Bareth, he had a black chest plate with large dark boots that covered most of his legs complete with a normal black sword. Blade had on white gloves and wore a white robe finishing with two white guns on each of his side.

For me..... well, I had the normal gear on all except the adamantium spear safely stored in my storage ring handed down to me by an upperclassman from South two class.

Emily was not one to be outdone too. She was still in contact with her father and, after lying to him through a transmission stone saying she had succeeded in her mission, her father saw it fit to send her a blood red armor and even a new sword. She managed to convince him she needed time to compose her thoughts before going on the next mission and cut off her contact before her father could even complain.

The armor was quite revealing but awsesome, though I did confiscate the sword to check for any enchantments.

Sure enough, Bradley confirmed to me that it really was enchanted by a powerful spell that not even my dark mana could dispel. For now, the principal was holding onto it as she still didn't trust Emily even though she authorized her stay.

"You're the first daughter of the demon king, right? Has it ever crossed your mind that he loves you and incase of trouble will come to save you, hence might ravage the entire continent just to search for you?" I asked her while walking down the hall towards the teleportation gates.

"If he was the father I knew, then maybe, but when Nila, my sister, was killed, he completely changed to a different person, one that would even threaten the life of his own blood. No, he would't do that for me. He's already too far gone. That's way I want to stay as far away from him as possible before I gain enough power to stop the madness tormenting his mind," she answered.

"About your brother, will he be ok?" Bareth asked in a serious tone.

"Don't worry. I already talked to one of my trusted friends to bail him out of that mad house," she answered, but our conversation was cut short when we finally arrived at the teleportation gates.

"Alright students. Listen up, for this is a life and death situation," Principal Kelly began once everyone had arrived at the gates.

"Each class will venture to their own planets, their homeroom teachers accompanying them. Once more, a party of five is required, preferably a healer in each group. Requests for training while hunting for beast essense wholly depends on your teachers. I wish you all the best, and the class with the most beast essence gets five hundred points,"

"Points? Points for what?" someone at the front asked.

"Oh, if you didn't already know, points will be earned by the class with the most beast essense, and five hunred points will be added to the class in the inter-class competition thus, giving the leading class a huge advantage. Good luck cadets," the principal answered quickly, then she turned flew back towards her office. I bet she's still real busy with a lot of documents.

[Oh yeah!]

I used flashpoint to quickly reach the principal's office as I had to exchange a few words with her, and patiently waited for her to arrive outside her door. As soon as I was sure she was in, I gently knocked on it.

"Come in," a soft yet firm voice spoke. I opened the door and was greeted by a well furnished office, the table and shelves as neat and clean as they can be.

Mrs Kelly was already seated at her seat, staring questionably at me, he balcony door wide open from where she flew in. Two empty chairs were at the front of her desk, and a computer could be visibly seen on the table.

"Mandrax, was it? I could sense you arrived here before me, showing you really are worth of that spear. I'll have to thank you for putting Miss Ivory in her place. Been a while since another class beat hers. What can I do for you? Please take a sit," she gestured to one of the seats.

" I'm good, thanks. I just wanted to ask, did you see anything to prove that I was the one who held backthe demon horde?" I asked her while holding my breath. This was something on my mind as I still didn't want anyone to know of my power this early since it would bring unwanted attention.

She stared at me confused before finally arriving to her answer," It was your teacher that told me. You know, whatever was stopping our movement didn't affect him in the slightest since he is fully human. However, he wasn't at school until the very last minute when her saw black lightning striking to where the fight was going on. I thought he'd already had informed you,"

***

[Phew! Dodged that bullet. Good thing she didn't see anything quite serious]

[Flintheart is hiding something from me, isn't he? Wouldn't be the first time either]

[Wise advice for the bucket of bolts in my head that has yet to prove its usefulness to me]

" I'm afraid he didn't. Oh, Miss Kelly, can you please lend me the ring to the dungeon Spir?" I asked her another of my concerns. Her smile turned to a frown as she rubbed the ring on her right finger.

"The most dangerous dungeon of the planet Jupiter. Who told you I had it?"

"Mr. Dyrus said I'd get it from you,"

"I shouldn't be handing this to a first year let alone student, but, you have proven yourself more capable than the rest of the other students so I'll make an exception just this once. Word of advice, stay in level one," she said as she handed me the ring.

"Thanks, Principal Kelly. I'll make sure to put it to good use. Bye bye for now," I said, and left in a hurry before she changed her mind.

Kelly waved her hand as Max left, but the second he closed the door, her face turned serious and slowly took out her diary.

"Dear diary, I'm not sure what to do now. I know he uses dark mana but since when does a beast possess such an ability? My drakon's eye couldn't see what really happened, but this is a matter to report to dad. Though I won't do so now. I'll need to investigate further before coming to a conclusion. Wish me luck," she finished and sealed the diary with an ancient spell only she and her father knew.

I arrived at the gates once more, thankful that they still hadn't left, but then I realized something was off. Even as the homeroom teachers tried lining up the students, they all seemed to be paving way to someone while others tried to gang up on her.

"Kira!" I exclaimed in shock as Bareth, Blade and Emily jumped in just in time to defend her from the other classes." But why in the world would they..." then I saw it. The hood she had on, the silver boots and the badge on the hood that had the sigh of a bell.

In the beast verse, there is an underworld sector found on the planet Pluto. From there, five of the most powerful Assassin families are found and that sign of the bell signified the second strongest clan of assassins: The Falcons.

Kira was from that family? But I wonder why she would choose to show this here, now of all times? But, be that as it may, she doesn't deserve to be ganged up by almost half of the school.

"ENOUGH!" I shouted loudly as I cracked my hands together making an ear-piercing thunder. That seemed to grab everyone's attention. They all quieted down and stared at the source of the sound, only to find me holding the adamantium spear in my hand.

"Anyone got a problem with her? Feel free to issue your complaint rrrriiight here!" I shouted for all to hear, emitting a powerful aura.

Most of them backed away whe they saw it, and the rest formed up their lines under orders of their class teachers. I then locked my eyes with Flavo, who just stood there rooted to the spot and said," Do your job right,"

From there, everything went smoothly as the teachers directed us to each of our portals.

"Thanks for that, Max. Go talk to your friends. They'll need it," Flintheart whispered in my ear while we were walking with each other at the front. But he did speak the truth about going to my friends, and we still had no plan for how to go about hunting.

"Hey guys, hold up," I shouted as I caught up to them." You took a big risk there, showing everyone who you truly were," I told Kira as we walked onwards to the portal.

"You don't know where we're going, do you? When they say unexplored planets, they literally mean planets no one has ever stepped foot in," she answered. "That's why I had to risk wearing the suit gifted to me by my family,"

"So what you're saying is..."

"That's right. We're going to a planet that might have beasts that are too powerful for even us to handle, or even worse, beasts that have intelligence,"

"Oh, I'm so screwed!"
