Chapter 50 - Chapter 50|MY INSTINCTS WARNED US |

I couldn't let it go.

Even after he told me that the student had written him a romantic letter, something inside me refused to settle.

I had listened to him carefully. I had asked questions. I had watched his reaction. He kept insisting that he had done nothing and that he had not encouraged the girl.

I wanted to believe him.

But my instincts kept whispering that the situation needed to be handled before it became something bigger.

"You should have confronted her," I told him.

He looked at me.

"Confronted her about what?"

"The letter."

"What would I say?"

"You could have told her clearly that what she did was inappropriate. Or you could have reported it to the principal."

He shook his head.

"I don't think it's necessary."

I stared at him.

"Why not?"

"Because I didn't do anything."

"That isn't the point."

He became quiet.

"The point is that she did something," I continued. "She's your student. She wrote you a romantic letter. You can't just ignore something like that and assume it will disappear."

He sighed.

"I don't want to make a big issue out of it."

"But what if she does it again?"

"I'll handle it."

I shook my head.

"You don't understand what I'm saying."

"I understand."

"No, you don't."

I wasn't angry because I thought he had done something wrong.

I was angry because I was afraid.

I knew how quickly rumors could spread.

I knew how easily people could twist a story.

And I knew that sometimes, doing nothing could make a situation worse.

"You should report it," I said again.

He looked at me and smiled slightly.

"Nothing will happen."

I didn't smile back.

"That's exactly what people say before something happens."

He didn't answer.

That conversation ended there.

But it didn't end inside my mind.

For days, I kept thinking about it.

I tried to convince myself that I was overthinking.

Maybe the girl had simply developed a childish crush.

Maybe she would forget about it.

Maybe everything would return to normal.

I wanted that to happen.

I prayed that it would.

He continued teaching, and whenever he came home, I tried not to bring up the matter again.

But I noticed something about myself.

I had become more observant.

Whenever his phone rang, I noticed.

Whenever he mentioned school, I listened carefully.

Whenever he told me about his students, I wondered whether the same girl was involved.

I hated myself for it.

I didn't want to live in fear.

I wanted to trust the man I loved.

And I did.

But trust didn't mean ignoring my instincts.

There was something about the situation that bothered me.

I couldn't explain it.

It was just a feeling.

A warning I couldn't prove.

And because I couldn't prove anything, I kept quiet.

Then one evening, while we were talking, he suddenly became serious.

"There is something I need to tell you."

My heart immediately tightened.

"What?"

He looked at me for a moment.

"It concerns that student."

I froze.

"What happened?"

He took a breath.

"She came to my house."

For a second, I didn't understand.

"Who?"

"The student."

I stared at him.

"The same student who wrote you the romantic letter?"

He nodded.

I felt something cold move through me.

"When?"

"Today."

"Why?"

"She said she came to visit."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

"She came to your house?"

"Yes."

"Unannounced?"

"Yes."

I stood there in silence.

The questions started rushing through my mind.

How?

Why?

What was she doing at his house?

How did she even know where he lived?

And more importantly, why would a student leave her boarding house and go to her teacher's home in the evening?

I looked at him.

"Did you ask her why she came?"

"Yes."

"And?"

"She said she came for a visit."

"A visit?"

I repeated the word slowly.

"A visit?"

He nodded.

I couldn't understand it.

"How can a student visit her teacher like that without permission?"

He didn't answer.

"Especially in the evening?"

Still nothing.

"Wasn't she supposed to be in the boarding house?"

"She was."

"So how did she leave?"

"I don't know."

I felt a chill.

That was the moment my earlier warning came back to me.

I had told him.

I had warned him that ignoring the first incident could allow the situation to grow.

And now she had appeared at his house.

I looked at him.

"What did you do?"

He told me that he questioned her and asked why she had come.

According to him, she simply repeated that she wanted to visit.

He didn't invite her inside.

Instead, he decided to send her back.

He said he went inside to get money so she could board a ride back to the boarding house.

I listened carefully.

Then he said something that made my heart stop.

"When I came back outside, her parents were already there."

I stared at him.

"What?"

"Her parents."

"At your house?"

"Yes."

I couldn't speak.

He continued.

"They were surrounding the house."

My mind went blank.

The little warning that had been sitting inside me suddenly became real.

This was no longer just a romantic letter.

It was no longer a student's innocent crush.

Something much bigger had arrived at his doorstep.

And I had no idea what would happen next.
