Fang knew he couldn't physically drag the girl away without causing a scene that would alienate William, so he was trying to corner the boy with logic, forcing him to admit that the academy was no place for a child.
"It's better for her to stay with her master!" Lina blurted out, her voice sharp with a protective edge. She didn't care about the "safety" of a clan that had just been besieged.
"The clan isn't safe," William added, dropping the facade of courtesy. If the Third Elder was going to be this daring and shameless, William saw no reason to play along. "You and I both just walked out of a deadly, blood-soaked battle at your very gates. Don't talk to me about the 'safety' of the clan estate."
"Even so, it is a fortified stronghold," Fang argued, not yielding easily. "It is a sanctuary compared to the academy, where she could easily stumble into trouble while you are away, venturing into the forest or attending to your duties."
