[Unknown Girl's POV]
I had given my tracker to someone who had lost their own when they were running away from someone. I don't actually need it, since I know how to survive in the wilderness. But really, isn't it amazing what requests can do?
When they first told us we can ask for anything within reason we assumed it would only be normal things like food or objects, but that all changed when someone jokingly used his request to ask for information on who he was supposed to fight. To our surprise, it was given. That expanded our view on what 'anything within reason' meant.
After that, we started to ask for things that were unreasonable to test how far anything within reason was. We eventually found out that we could set things to our advantage using requests, but it would drastically reduce the amount of requests we were given.
That was how most of us were able to survive the fight club. One of us asked that we be give easy matches and after that, we didn't get another request for three months.
But now we've gambled everything on our last requests. We made it so that we can track each other and find ourselves easily. At this early stage, this could be the best thing you could do.
I was on my way to the place I had set as the meeting point when I saw someone acting strange. It was a dark-skinned boy who was sprinting away from the place my people were supposed to be in.
I stopped and decided to observe him.
I climbed a tree and followed him until he ran out of energy. I was going to approach him then, but I saw he had a tracker.
I would have assumed he was one of mine, but I definitely did not know his face. If so, then there was only one way he got it.
My eyes went cold and I called out to him but I made sure I didn't look threatening.
His face went pale when he saw me, but he recovered his composure quickly. He turned to me and I what I saw on his chest made me think I was dreaming. The number thirty-nine.
As in, Group 39. It was like a plump, well-fed chicken just walked into my trap even though I never set one. The gods must be smiling down on me.
As I talked to him, I expected him to start panicking but surprisingly, he kept completely calm.
He stated to talk as if he was a very busy person that had a lot to do and bolted. I could have caught him if I wanted, but I was sort of amused. There is one thing that irritated me though, and that was the fact the trackers were now useless. If he has one, then us still using them would make it very easy for him to ambush us. Not that he would be much of a threat anyway, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
I wonder if I'll see him again. He was quite an interesting character. I wonder if everyone from Group 39 is like that.
[George's POV]
When I woke up, I was on some shore wet and soaking. I got up and looked around frantically.
Did I make it? I actually didn't hit any rocks? That's surprising, I half expected to wake up in the afterlife.
The sun was starting to set but I still hadn't accomplished any of the initial goals I wanted to. It was like someone had it out for me and was making me run into one problem after another.
At least I could quench my thirst, I'm parched.
I walked over to the water and hoped that it was clean. I drank and drank until I was satisfied. After that I decided to walk around and look for something to eat. But having learned my lesson, I was going to be very careful where I go now.
I waited where I was until the sun set completely then crept into the darkness with nothing but the faint moonlight to guide me. I had ditched the tracker in fear of them being able to find me and was now going to search for food.
Let's see, what did Professor A say again? Bugs, and plants. I don't know how to identify plants, so I'll have to go after bugs. Where do I find them?
That's it!
I snapped my fingers in realization, then flinched because of the sound it made. I stared around me in case someone was close by and heard it.
Rocks! It's possible for me find some under rocks! I used to find them all the time when I was still in Barilan. At the time, I was still scared of them, but now just a year later I'm planning to eat them. Funny how life works.
I wandered around a little on the hunt for bugs when I saw some stones close to me that looked big enough for insects to live under. I went over to them and sure enough, there were all sorts underneath.
I don't even like them right now, but I'd prefer eating them over dying of starvation. I braced myself and picked one up. It was wriggling and trying to get out of my hands, which felt weird and unnatural.
I ate a few and practically swallowed them whole. I forced myself to eat some more until I couldn't possibly stomach any more.
I restrained myself from gagging and walked off. I had made sure to keep track of where I came from as it was my only source of water at the moment.
I crept around like a thief looking for a home to rob but the only difference was that I was looking for someone to kill. When I had walked for a while, I heard voices and they were quite loud, like they were oblivious to the fact that there might be people like me on the prowl.
I headed in the direction of the voices, and I found myself looking at a clearing from behind a bush.
There were two groups that looked like they were having a confrontation. It already looked very serious, but there was one thing that got my attention and that was that they had weapons.
When I say weapons, I mean things like swords, spears, axes and bows. Those sort of weapons.
