Before she could finish, Charles stood up and walked toward the distant elevator shaft. "Shanshan, I'm going down to take a look. You keep an eye on things up here. If anything happens, contact me through the journal."
Dressed in a white dress, Shanshan floated down to Alya's side, nodding lightly at Charles's back.
When Shanshan saw the sumptuous food nearby, her eyes immediately lit up. She opened her mouth and swallowed all of it—plates, bones, and all.
Charles declined the miner's helmet offered by the engineering team. As he approached the elevator shaft, he saw that a rope ladder taken from the ship had been stretched all the way down one side.
But Charles didn't use it; he simply pushed off lightly with his feet and jumped straight down.
