Nini carefully closed her homework notebook, shut her eyes, stretched her arms up high, and let out a big yawn. "Ah! Finally done. That was so hard, my head hurts."
After neatly putting her notebook and pencil case into her backpack, Nini thought for a moment, then walked over to the bulky CRT monitor and gently pressed a square button.
BEEP. Accompanied by the sound of static, the screen lit up. She didn't insert a tape cartridge, however. Instead, she picked up a copper key, inserted it into a lock on the right side of the TV, and turned it.
Soon, a new image appeared on the screen full of static. It was a new television program, which, in Nini's understanding, was like a single, endless videotape that played from morning to night without ever stopping.
The screen showed the docks of various islands. Navy sailors were tearfully bidding farewell to their crying families before running toward the warships at the pier.
