By the time Charles arrived at 1189-1 and his previous battlefield, the scene was a total mess, with the repulsive odor of blood, gunpowder, and burnt flesh pervading the air.
The previously open tunnel had collapsed significantly, with the few remaining survivors huddled on the other side, lying amongst the dead, in a scene of utter devastation.
While Charles had been inside the Spider, the others had also paid a terrible price to constrain the colossal creature, and now less than half of them were still alive. The number of Unicorne's crew members had once again dwindled to a mere handful.
Those crew members with lighter injuries were, under the guidance of several ship doctors, assisting those more severely wounded. As for the dead, they simply had no time to address them.
When the Unicorne's crew saw Charles return, they were so overwhelmed with emotion they could hardly contain themselves.
