Chapter 105 - Chapter 105 - Another Targaryen Playing the Game of Thrones?

[Chapter Size: 2800 Words.]

Third Person POV.

Riverrun.

...

...

Tyrion watched cautiously the man with his back turned to his father at that moment, who kept his gaze on the window of Harrenhal with a cup of wine in his hand.

If his father were a dragon, Tyrion was certain that right now he would be breathing fire and turning Harrenhal into what Aegon the Conqueror had not finished when he attacked the giant towers of this castle during the era of the conquest and unification of the Seven Kingdoms.

He would turn the entire place into molten stone, given the mood his father was in at that moment.

Tyrion had never seen his father so enraged.

He refused to make any jokes or even comment on the latest letters arriving — otherwise, he believed he would be thrown out the window by Tywin.

He truly believed that his father would kill him right then more than at any other time in his life.

Tywin had already reached his limit.

He squeezed the wine cup so hard that he managed to dent even the metal.

Briefly, he looked to the side and, with all the strength he could muster, he shouted.

"AAARGHH!"

Tyrion believed his father had become a true lion at that moment, as the cup hit the wall to his left.

The liquid splashed across that side of the room.

Tyrion immediately shrank back as he saw his father looking around angrily, thinking his end was near.

But Tywin only approached and slammed his hand hard against the table, as if trying to crack it.

Clearly, he didn't have the strength for that, but the impact was loud, making the wood on the desk vibrate with everything on top of it.

"How could this happen?" he growled with everything he had.

The last letter said that their vaults had been emptied within Casterly Rock.

And that infuriated him more than anything else — even though he had already received news about the destruction of two vassal castles of his lands.

One of them had been taken by the enemy, who had his leg cut in Riverrun, treated worse than an animal, and that same one was now missing.

Tyrion remained silent, clearly also quite disturbed by the news of the past few weeks.

He could imagine his father's rage.

Tywin Lannister was the most powerful man in Westeros, but now he had become a joke.

A man of misfortune, with many events going against him, adding to the defeats he had suffered at the hands of Robb Stark and the capture of Jaime.

He knew his father didn't keep the entire monetary base of the House within that vault, but there had been a significant amount there — at least half of the entire Lannister fortune — and suddenly, it had magically disappeared without anyone seeing anything else about the gold.

Stolen by the one now being called an evil sorcerer.

It was Joy Hill who saw him and mentioned his appearance, and soon the castle was thrown into chaos upon learning that the vault had been robbed.

Tyrion was beginning to understand the fear his brother had felt after that mysterious man spoke with him in Winterfell.

The one who was later revealed to be Jon Snow.

With every piece of news he heard about him, the more stunned he became.

He had vanished for a year, with the last reports involving him in Essos, taking the Targaryen girl, and ended up returning almost three moons ago, starting to spread rumors in King's Landing.

He killed the king, abducted Ned Stark during his trial, and disappeared with him from the capital.

His father had surely already heard the news of what had happened in King's Landing, and his sister couldn't hide that — even if she had tried.

Now, the same author of the oddities that had happened in King's Landing had appeared in Riverrun two weeks ago.

He captured the Mountain after a massacre of Lannister men, claiming he had turned into a monster.

He was called "The Great Wolf" as described by the witnesses, due to the white fur and red eyes — the same from the rumors that he had been spotted in King's Landing.

Tyrion certainly wanted to pray not to ever meet that man, after hearing about his activities.

After all, he remembered very well the disdain Jon Snow showed upon hearing the name of his family.

He certainly hated the Lannisters — and probably, his actions were tied to that.

It sent a chill down Tyrion's spine just hearing about what he had done to a figure like the Mountain, who was one of the most feared men in Westeros.

What kind of monster would do that to another monster?

Even the mercenary Tyrion had hired since leaving the Vale, Bronn, had said that, if Jon Snow was within ten kilometers of the camp, he was leaving.

No discussion.

Tyrion couldn't blame the man.

Things only got stranger after that.

Two vassal castles of the West were simply destroyed — massacred — and the entire Lorch family had been wiped out.

Later came the events in the Citadel: more than fifteen Grand Maesters were killed.

And then, the event that seemed to have pushed his father over the edge...

The Lannister House's finances had been stolen.

Tyrion could hear his father's teeth grinding in hatred.

"You know he could be one of them, don't you? Everything points to it..." Tyrion murmured cautiously, while his father cast a look of pure hatred in his direction.

It was one of the few times when that hatred wasn't because Tyrion was who he was...

Tywin's hatred was completely directed at Jon Snow.

"You're going to say he has a dragon too?" Tywin growled.

Tyrion looked seriously.

Tyrion, you idiot...

After all, he began to argue over who Jon Snow was and what his motivations were...

"You know it might all be connected. Rhaegar had a son. A bastard. He came back from the war with Lord Stark, carrying a baby alongside his sister's body — who supposedly died of fever."

It was that same bastard who disappeared...

And reappeared older than he should be, more than a year ago.

Since then, he had shown disdain not only toward the Starks, but the king, and especially the Lannisters.

Now, this bastard had killed the king, shot his nephew with arrows, stolen the Iron Throne… yet for some reason, had still spared his uncle.

At the same time, he was after the Mountain...

And even destroyed the Lorch family's ancestral castle.

That should have been impossible, considering that, on the same day, he was supposed to be hundreds of kilometers away, in Riverrun.

How had he arrived so quickly at two castles that were so far apart?

One in the south of the West and the other in the North... on the same day?

He might not have been acting alone, but both castles were destroyed in the same way.

And what did Gregor Clegane and Ser Amory Lorch, who were targeted, have in common...

Those two castles belonged to two men who had murdered Elia Martell's children on the night of the Sack of King's Landing.

At the same time, a large number of killings happened in the Citadel, which Tyrion still didn't understand why Jon Snow was killing maesters of the highest order — the maesters were all terrified.

And then, House Lannister was robbed.

Obviously, to Tyrion, everything indicated that Jon Snow was a Targaryen — a third son of Rhaegar that no one knew about, and how Ned Stark deceived all Seven Kingdoms by taking Rhaegar's bastard to Winterfell — and who was clearly seeking revenge.

And he possessed a dragon to explain how he moved so quickly from one place to another in a matter of hours, which also explained how he ended up in Essos after being seen in Winterfell.

That should have been impossible, when no dragons had been seen for over 150 years, and no one had heard of a dragon growing anywhere.

But, at the same time, after everything they had seen Jon Snow do along the way, Tyrion didn't know if the word impossible could even define this Jon Snow.

Tyrion's lifelong dream had always been to see a dragon, but now, that was the last thing he wanted — it didn't matter the color, size, or shape Jon Snow's dragon had, it would surely be his end if the dwarf ever saw it.

Another theory was becoming plausible: he had stolen Daenerys the Babbling and perhaps intended to steal the Iron Throne and take revenge on all who had fought against his family.

After all, there were some rumors that Jon Snow had gone to the seat of House Tully the same night he destroyed the castles in the West.

That was what Tyrion imagined.

He hadn't heard anything strange in the past week, but he expected any movement from Jon Snow again.

He was causing chaos, alone.

And if he truly had a dragon, it wouldn't take long before he began to rally support from old Targaryen loyalists.

Even though many kings were rising at this very moment and all going against him, despite the sorcery and fear Jon was spreading, killing maesters, Tyrion knew: he was probably the best candidate for the throne.

"You're creating too many theories..." Tywin muttered to himself.

"You know it's impossible for someone to move that fast across three kingdoms in just a few days' time, don't you?" Tyrion pushed back against his father's denial.

"Or maybe even Daenerys Targaryen is with a dragon and acting alongside him... after all, Jon Snow took her over a year ago..."

His father only growled.

He was about to respond when a loud, urgent knock sounded at the door.

Tyrion looked, curious.

Tywin shot a look of rage, clearly irritated at having been interrupted — and would certainly punish whoever had dared do so.

Until the door was flung open by force, with guards trying to restrain the intruder.

It was none other than Ser Amory Lorch.

"Forgive me, Lord Tywin... He barged in with force and said he'd kill anyone who tried to stop him," the Lord Commander murmured, while Ser Amory Lorch tried to advance in fury.

The man was growling like an animal.

"They destroyed my house! Killed my family!" he shouted, consumed by hatred.

"Take his weapon! Get him on his knees! This man is not himself!" Tyrion ordered immediately.

The guards forced Lord Lorch to kneel and took his sword, while he kept his gaze fixed on Tywin, with rage and pure hatred.

"You think I expected this? That your house would simply be destroyed?" Tywin murmured coldly.

Tyrion remained silent, sunk in his small chair, not daring to interrupt that argument.

Lord Lorch had been away, trying to maintain order among the Lannister army in lands near the Crownlands.

He had been a week's ride from Harrenhal when he heard, from nearby castles, the news about his house.

He immediately went mad and rushed to confront Tywin — his entire family had been wiped out.

"What's to become of me now, Tywin? They killed my whole family! Destroyed my house!" he screamed, distraught, having lost everything.

"Calm yourself. I will not speak with you now. We'll talk later. This problem must also be dealt with. And we need to kill whoever did this," Tywin said, a little more rationally.

Tywin had paused his hatred for a moment upon seeing a man who had lost more than he had — more than gold — he had lost everything, so Tywin had to take a deep breath, trying to think more clearly.

He needed to destroy Jon Snow.

Whether he really was a damned Targaryen or not didn't matter anymore.

He needed to act seriously.

And if Tyrion was right — and he truly had a dragon — then they would need to be even more careful.

"That's not enough, Tywin! They killed my family!" the man exclaimed, while Tyrion looked at him as if he were a hypocrite.

After all, that same man had accepted the order to kill a three-year-old child.

That's right. Fifty times stabbing a knife into a child, when Ser Amory Lorch stormed into Rhaenys Targaryen's room…

And now he was there, crying, screaming with the greatest hatred in the world that his family had been destroyed, as if the world was unfair to him...

It would be funny if it weren't so tragic.

"Take him to the cell and leave him there for a week, until his mind returns to normal. Then we can talk and finally deal with this threat," Tywin ordered, pulling the man out of the hall as he still screamed his lord's name, as if that would change anything about what had happened.

Tywin closed the door and turned to his dwarf son.

"I want you to go to King's Landing and serve as Hand of the King," he said, surprising Tyrion.

"What?!" the dwarf nearly jumped upon hearing it.

"Your sister is making one mistake after another in King's Landing. I want you to take the position and clean up the mess in the capital. Knock some sense into the king's actions too," Tywin said firmly.

"I'll be the first dwarf Hand of the King… with the first king without an Iron Throne."

Tyrion couldn't resist making a joke, referring to the news that Jon Snow had stolen the Throne and handed it off — forcing them to place another chair for Joffrey, which symbolized a huge loss of power for the entire realm.

He looked at his father, who gave him a look of hatred.

Tyrion swallowed hard. He knew that wasn't the time for jokes.

"Sorry. I'll go to King's Landing and be Hand of the King, as you asked. I still don't understand why you chose me for this, after everything..." Tyrion murmured.

"Because you are my son. Now, excuse me. I'm going to try to figure out a way to save your brother… while I deal with two Baratheons declaring themselves kings," Tywin said, leaving the room.

Tyrion stood there, stunned.

The news continued to spread.

Even Cersei swallowed hard upon hearing that her father's house had been robbed, right after the castles in the West had been destroyed.

Clearly, the Lannister army was stirring enormous distrust among their lords.

At the same time, Joffrey confronted Sansa Stark to vent his frustrations about everything that was happening.

Since waking up, he now walked with a limp due to where the arrow struck his leg, fired by Jon Snow, but that didn't stop him from ordering a Kingsguard to hold the girl — who screamed, frightened — before receiving a slap from the king.

"This is for everything your bastard brother is doing! That monster!" he shouted in fury, as he watched the girl there, crying.

She had suffered greatly in recent weeks.

The prince she once dreamed of marrying had become her worst nightmare.

Soon after, Joffrey turned to his Kingsguard:

"Where is the Hound?" he demanded immediately.

"I don't know, Your Grace. He's nowhere to be found in the Red Keep."

That answer frustrated the young king, while Sandor Clegane was drinking in one of the cheap taverns of King's Landing in Flea Bottom, getting completely drunk and frustrated.

He had heard that his brother had been captured by that man — the same one they encountered in Winterfell and who caused more chaos in King's Landing than anyone else.

Clearly, he frightened even Sandor Clegane, and the Hound wanted to stay as far away from that figure as possible.

He didn't quite know what to think.

On one hand, it seemed like his brother had received everything he deserved, being treated like an animal... by another monster, even greater than him.

Part of him wanted to see Gregor screaming in pain, feeling what it was like to be without one of his legs, being dragged around.

He imagined his brother was already dead by now.

But at the same time, he was frustrated it hadn't been him to do it.

And on top of that, that same man had destroyed House Clegane.

"What kind of monster was that Jon Snow?" Sandor muttered.

He didn't know if he ever wanted to see that "demon" again, when he returned to King's Landing.

Maybe... maybe he should leave the Kingsguard.

He didn't know what to think anymore.

Elsewhere, outside of King's Landing, Lady Melisandre was returning to Dragonstone at that moment, while her thoughts remained troubled after the encounter she had with that Jon Snow, weeks ago.

At the same time, the news of what he had been doing left her completely lost.

In Dorne, Doran Martell had also received the reports.

He read the scroll with a furrowed brow, and then handed it to his brother who had returned that day to Dorne after a trip to Lys, and who immediately became intrigued upon seeing all the scrolls detailing what was happening to the realm.

"You're telling me that woman had a child?" he said.

He just didn't know yet if he felt anger... or surprise.

In the Reach, Olenna Tyrell was also reading the news, her frown even deeper.

They had already named Renly Baratheon as king… and he would marry Margaery Tyrell.

"By the gods... this man is unstoppable," she murmured, feeling a slight chill at everything she was hearing about Jon Snow.

The future of Westeros was becoming more uncertain by the day.

And all of it... caused by just one single person.
