Chapter 38 - Arrival

Rose had pleasant dreams for once. She was with Scorpius, and they snuggled together in their massive bed.

The dream came to an abrupt end as she was shaken awake. Lestrange stood over her inside her cell. She tried to shy back from him, but he grabbed her arms.

"We've arrived, sleepy-head," he said with a malicious grin. "Now, are you going to be able to walk on your feet, or do we have to drag you?"

"Arrived where?" she asked, pretending to still be sleepy and a bit confused, though the sight of Lestrange up close like that had woken her up completely.

"At our destination. A small island in the middle of nowhere in Norway. Our local contact has prepared it for our arrival. We even have a special room all for you." She didn't like the sound of that. But she got on her feet. She figured there was little use in trying to resist these people now. It would only lead to more torture and her being restrained or dragged off the boat. Besides, if they hit land, there was a chance that Uncle Harry or her mother was there to save her. Or at least that someone was there. She walked besides Lestrange, ignoring his tight grip on her arm.

The boat was docked on the shore. It seemed like a dark, desolate island. Almost like a mountain straight out of the sea. Rose thought she saw the outlines of some buildings, but in the dark, it was hard to tell. There were no lights visible anywhere.

Lestrange held on to her arm and pointed his wand at her. She had no idea what had happened to her own wand, or Scorpius'. "Now, we are going to walk out of here. If you think of trying anything stupid, remember, this is an island. There is no one else around to help you. All you would achieve by trying to run is to annoy me. Do you understand?"

"I understand. I'm not going anywhere. I'm not stupid."

"That is debatable." he said with a smirk as he led her down the plank to the shore. She walked as slowly as she dared, whilst making sure she did not trip. She didn't think his restraint against physically damaging her would still hold if she made any sudden movements, deliberate or not. She desperately hoped someone was here to meet them. But she didn't know if the Trackers reached all the way up here. She really had been stupid, to place herself in this position. Why had she insisted on going to Azkaban? Uncle Harry had been right. Nothing good had come from it. What had she accomplished? Nothing. Only getting herself captured again, and Thomas killed.

No, don't think about that, she chided herself as she felt tears coming. Focus on your current predicament. Survive this, then process it later.

They walked on the quay stones on the shore. Then they hit on a small path that led up towards the centre of the island. They started walking uphill.

"Where are we going?" Rose asked. She didn't get a reply, only a short tap on the head for talking. She took the hint and didn't ask any more questions. She was surrounded by the Death Eaters. They seemed nervous.

"Where is that blasted man?" one of them murmured. "He was supposed to meet us on the shore."

"He'll be here." Lestrange said. "He told us where to go"

They walked on. Eventually they came to a reasonably flat area. It had cobblestones but they had not been maintained for quite some time. Was this some sort of ruin? A fortress maybe, or a monastery? She had no idea if Norway had such things, but she suspected they did. Not that it would help her much. She had absolutely no idea where she was, and only Lestrange's word that they were in Norway. Norway was a big country. A long country. In the dark, she didn't even see the rest of the island, though she saw that it was steep, as a mountain straight up from the sea. She hoped she didn't have to walk all the way to the top.

Then, suddenly, out of the blue, there was a flash of light. There were voices coming from all sides, and they shouted. Rose suspected the language was Norwegian, and although she didn't understand the words, she could guess what they said. All the Death Eaters tensed up. They formed a circle, but with Lestrange holding Rose in front like a human shield. Lestrange still held his wand tight on her.

"They've blocked Apparition!" someone said.

"How did they find us?" one of the Death Eaters said, sounding panicked. "Do you think Larsen ratted us out?"

Now the voices started shouting in English. "Drop your wands! You are surrounded!"

Lestrange narrowed his eyes. "This has something to do with you, doesn't it, Mrs. Malfoy?"

"Did you really think my mother would send me to Azkaban and leave me there, without knowing exactly where I was at all times?" Rose said savagely. "You shouldn't have taken me with you."

Lestrange's grip on her arm tightened. She probably shouldn't taunt them any further. She just hoped that she would get out of this without being killed. By either side. She tried to look at the people behind the lights, to see if Uncle Harry was there, or her mother, but it was impossible to tell.

"Drop your wands! You are surrounded!" the voice shouted again. None of the Death Eaters moved a muscle. Rose barely dared to breathe. This was the most danger she had ever been in. Including that time when Voldemort had looked down on her, deciding whether or not to kill her to make a message. What was she going to do?
