Meanwhile, inside the house, Gu Nian's eyes lit up.
Fishing, she wanted to go!
Ever since she came to this world, she'd been eating vegetarian every day, and her mouth was starting to taste bland.
The space could give her something to snack on, but it was all fruits, and there wasn't a single living creature to be found.
Bursting out of the house, Gu Nian said, "Okay, okay, third brother, fourth brother, I want to go fishing too, and I often went out before, I won't get tanned."
The skin of the original owner was naturally fair and had never been sunburnt from childhood to adulthood, so Gu Nian was very reassured.
"Alright then." Sanhu wasn't as talkative as Little Hu, but he was thoughtful and took out a straw hat for Gu Nian to wear, then took her small hand and followed Little Hu.
Speaking of the ancient scenery, it was truly beautiful.
Every house had big trees planted in front and behind, and when the breeze blew, it was refreshingly comfortable.
The creek was a tributary flowing down from the Great West River, the water was not deep, barely covering the knees, and the creek and both riverbanks were full of stones.
Gu Nian carried a small bucket, watching Sanhu and Little Hu use a basket to catch fish, occasionally managing to catch a small fish the size of a palm, which they would throw ashore for her to pick up.
Walking along the pebble-filled bank, Gu Nian saw that many snails had grown on the stones in the creek, along with playful little river shrimps jumping around, and shoals of tiny fish swimming by, all exposed under her gaze due to the clear water.
A natural, pollution-free world, even the air smelled comfortable.
Gu Nian placed the small bucket aside, ran to pick several phoenix tree leaves to lay on the ground, putting all the snails she gathered on top of the leaves.
Thinking about the several ways to cook the snails, she couldn't help but start drooling incessantly.
There were also quite a few small crabs under the stones, but they were too small and were all disdainfully thrown into the space to be raised.
As for the small shrimps and small fish, they were too sly, and she simply couldn't catch them.
There were plenty of fish in the river, and in no time, half a bucket was filled.
Gu Nian, taking advantage of people's inattention, sneakily took a few to put them in the space to raise, adding a bit of vitality there.
Sanhu and Little Hu came up and immediately saw the piles of snails on the riverbank while Gu Nian was still touching the stones.
"Sister, why are you gathering those, they aren't tasty." Little Hu asked directly while Sanhu went to pick up the small bucket.
"Who says they aren't tasty, they're delicious, but you guys are just cooking them wrong."
Spicy snails make such a great snack to go with drinks, how could they not be tasty!
Sanhu brought over some tree vines to bundle the snails into packs, saying, "Let's take them home first; if they aren't tasty, we can crush them to feed the chickens, and get a few more eggs."
After gathering them, it would be a pity to throw them back.
So Sanhu carried the heaviest small bucket, while Little Hu and Gu Nian each carried some snails, and they headed home together.
Even though the creek water was clear, the snails needed to be kept for a few days to spit out mud and sand before they were fit to eat.
There were no pliers at home, so Gu Nian found scissors from Mrs. Jiang's sewing basket to try to clip the snail tails, but alas, she was too weak and had to give up after several tries.
By the time Lin Sanshui and his wife returned from the fields, the three kids had already cleaned all the small fish and were just waiting to cook them.
"You didn't go to a place where the water is deep, right?" Mrs. Jiang asked.
Little Hu hurriedly shook his head, looking nervous, "No, we just gathered from the creek over there, the water isn't deep."
Gu Nian tugged on Sanhu, "Third brother, why are fourth brother and you so scared?"
Sanhu sheepishly touched his nose, "A while ago, Little Hu secretly went to the pond west of the village to fish, the water there was deep, and he got caught and severely scolded by Dad."
Gu Nian raised an eyebrow at Sanhu, "What about you, third brother? Did you get scolded too?"
