We were inside a room filled with armour.
I couldn't believe my eyes.

Earlier on at the door, Mom was going to tell me something.
Mom: Juno, I... Never mind come
Me: Huh?
What was she going to say? I wanted to ask her, but what I saw next silenced me.
She placed her finger on her right eye and took out her contact lens, then placed it on the left eye of the Matryoshka doll.
The door slid to the left side of the wall, making an opening. There was a pile of staircases that led down into the ground.
My jaw dropped.
Mom: Come.
She took the lead, and as we moved, I heard the door slide back and shut.
Then there are lights everywhere.
When we got to the end of the staircase, we were welcomed by an enormous room filled with nothing but weapons and machinery.
I stood there dumbstruck.
After what felt like an eternity, she took a deep breath to steady herself. then started.
Mom: Your father was once part of a secret organization.
I could feel her voice trembling even though she still had that laid-back and emotionless look.
Mom: They were involved in some dangerous activities, and after some time, he decided he couldn't be with them any longer, especially when I came into the picture.
He then left the group when he realized the extent of their crimes and just didn't want to partake in it anymore. He wanted a new life for himself and me, free from that world. But they wouldn't let him go.
I watched her closely as she kept speaking. Unable to digest everything I was hearing.
Mom: We found out some few years back, before you were born, that they had planned to kill him. They wanted him dead because they feared he would expose them, due to the mass knowledge your dad had of them and the organization, even though that was never his plan.
Your dad wanted nothing to do with them anymore. But they just wouldn't accept that.
We manage to fight them to the best of our capability. He actually trained me, you see. But when I became pregnant with you, things became tougher. I became vulnerable.
So we escaped. We changed identities and found this town. We made sure our whereabouts were not tracked, and we cut contacts with everyone we knew, including family and friends. But your dad had people who kept him posted on their every activity.
And that is how we have been safe until now.
Your father and I tried our best to protect our family, but unfortunately we still couldn't escape their grasp.
I listened intently as my mind raced with thoughts of revenge and justice for my father.
As much as the truth hurt, it also ignited a spark within me. I now had so much determination to make them pay. I was going to avenge his death and keep the promise I made to him.
I went to m mom and hugged her.
Me: We will make them pay, Mom.
I was filled with newfound resolve, and I felt my mom's hand around me tighten.
Mom: Yes, we will. I will make sure of that.
