Chapter 6 - Hatsu x Victory x Realization

Jett was sweating. While he could maintain his Ren for thirty minutes, he was uncertain how long he could sustain it while fighting an unknown creature that had also just learned Nen. The beast was already strong, and adding Nen into the mix didn't bode well for Jett. He had forgotten about the kid who had warned him about the attack. His focus was entirely on the creature, and he hoped the kid wouldn't get caught in the battle or, worse, die.

Jett stared at the creature as it curiously observed his Nen. He realized it had never seen Nen before; its actions made it clear that it was unfamiliar with it. He watched as the creature gathered a significant amount of Nen in its fist and punched the ground, releasing the Nen like what Jett had done moments earlier. The ground erupted, sending tremors rippling through the surrounding area.

"Looks like things are getting too spicy for the pepper," Jett joked to himself, realizing he was in a serious predicament.

'Did this thing copy what I did? How?!' Jett thought in a panic. 'This creature didn't know anything about Nen a few moments ago; now it can control it like a seasoned warrior. Does someone out there want me to die that badly?'

Despite the chaos, Jett maintained a calm demeanor. He didn't want to give the creature any time to adapt to its Nen, but he also needed a moment to understand what was happening to him. When he was training his Nen, it emitted a royal blue glow. However, now, just as he felt a strange sensation at the back of his shoulder, his Nen changed from royal blue to a mixture of red and blue, flickering around him without blending, sometimes switching places in an instant.

Jett wasn't an expert on Nen, but he knew one thing: Nen shouldn't change color like that; he wasn't a rainbow. Changes in Nen occur according to specific rules and factors, which meant he had somehow activated a Hatsu. The problem was, he had no idea what his Hatsu was. During a water divination exercise, one side of the leaf in the glass cup had turned completely black, and the water in the cup had started to overflow.

Jett had all the information about Nen's attributes stored in his mind. The leaf changing color indicated that he was a specialist, which had made him happy. However, to his surprise, the water in the cup began to overflow, suggesting that he was an enhancer. This confused him; he wasn't sure what was happening and had no one to ask for guidance. Now that he could see his own Nen active and felt a new sensation behind his shoulder, he began to speculate.

It is worth noting that transmigrators are more likely to figure things out faster than others; they have seen many anime featuring bizarre occurrences. In this case, Jett theorized that he possessed some kind of blood limit. He remembered when he first appeared in this world, having no idea how to activate his Nen. Yet, his Nen had remained active for eight minutes, as far as he could recall. If he estimated correctly, it had taken him five minutes to defeat all those ugly monkeys and another three minutes to remain on guard. This was not his primary concern; instead, he found it significant that while his Ren was active, the amount of Nen he used never diminished. The strange burning sensation on the back of his right shoulder had also been present during that time.

Jett felt confident in his deductions, especially now that he could remember everything clearly. He had no idea if people could possess a kind of blood limit in this world, which he would need to investigate if he survived.

While pondering these developments, he kept his eyes on the lizard-like creature. As Jett noticed it, he focused his cold gaze on him again, and he cleared his mind, concentrating on observing the creature's every move. In a sudden burst of speed, the beast charged directly at him. Jett had weighed his options—if he ran, there was no guarantee the creature would let him go, and it was likely it would pursue him. No, it was determined to kill him. With this in mind, Jett steeled his resolve and decided to fight.

Jett performs his first conscious flash step by gripping the ground with his foot. In an instant, he appears directly in the path of the creature. The creature is nearly as tall as a full-grown adult, while Jett reaches only up to its chest, but that difference gives him the advantage he needs to land a kick. Kicking off the ground with full force, he delivers a powerful strike to the creature's jaw, sending it soaring into the air.

Enhancing his legs with as much nen as he can muster, Jett jumps after it. In mid-air, he bypasses the creature, raises his leg, and uses the momentum of his fall to spin. He understands why some characters shout the names of their moves; it boosts their confidence in executing their attacks. Following suit, Jett yells the name of his move.

"SPINNING AX KICK!"

However, things don't always go as planned. The creature doesn't remain still, waiting to be hit. At the last moment, it grabs Jett's leg, using his momentum against him, and begins to spin in mid-air. Jett struggles to free himself, but the creature's grip is too firm. After what feels like an eternity, the creature finally releases him, sending him crashing to the ground. Realizing he's about to fall, Jett screams out and redirects most of his nen to his back, the part that will make contact with the ground first.

A considerable rumbling echoed across the island. Gon, who had been forgotten, was shocked by the unfolding events. He had never seen anything like it. Fear gripped him; his body shook with trepidation, yet a smile remained on his face.

Jett, who had just landed, had created a vast, bowl-shaped pit but was still conscious. He had saved himself by strengthening his back before making the impact. Looking up at the creature that remained suspended in the air due to the momentum generated by throwing him, Jett watched as it began to fall. He saw the creature raise its leg, and before it started to spin, he noticed its mouth elongate into a sadistic smile. The beast was enjoying this. He should have felt anger or fear at what would happen if that kick connected, but instead, all he could do was smile.

"Let's see who kills whom, you bastard! (Haha!)" Jett yelled, ending with a laugh.

Jett executed a backward flip to leap out of the crater, landing far from where he had been. Wasting no time, he used Gyo to locate the beast amid the dust kicked up by its powerful kick.

"If you want to play copycat, then I will too. Although it's not lightning, concentrating my nen into a single forward point should yield similar results. You can thank your death on the copy ninja," Jett muttered as he saw the creature slowly emerge from the crater. Gathering his nen into his back and legs, Jett planted his foot on the ground and performed another flash step, this time much faster than before.

The creature that had just emerged from the crater sensed danger; all its animal instincts urged it to move. With inhuman, reflexive speed, it managed to avoid a stab to the heart by shifting slightly to its left. Jett's hand, which had concentrated nen, passed right through the creature's torso. He would have enjoyed his small victory if it weren't for the fact that the beast acted quickly and charged at him, trying to bite his neck. Jett retreated by jumping back with a weak flash step, but the creature's bite grazed his neck.

"That was a close one; had I been any slower, I would have died just then. This bastard has good instincts, too," Jett thought. He watched as the creature's wound began to heal unnaturally.

"An enhancer type, then," Jett deduced. It made sense—the creature was naturally strong and had a one-track mind: in this case, its sole purpose was to kill him. Enhancers had powerful physical attacks and defenses. They could boost their natural abilities; in this instance, the lizard used its nen to heal its chest wound. To mock the creature, just as it had mocked him when it sent him crashing to the ground, Jett licked the blood off his hand, smiled, and then spat onto the ground; he was feeling vindictive.

The act of licking the blood activated something within Jett's nen. A powerful aura erupted from him, startling both Jett and the creature. A beam of light shot out from his body at supersonic speed, giving the beast no time to react. The beam of light wrapped around its neck, forming a collar. At the exact moment, information appeared in Jett's mind as he watched the creature trying to pull at the dark blue collar it now wore.

The information discussed Jett's Hatsu and its function, raising even more questions about his body. However, he quickly snapped back to reality, gathering his Nen into his hand and exploding with Ren, pushing his body to its maximum capacity. In a flash, he vanished from his original position and reappeared behind the creature, delivering a killing blow. Half of the creature's head was now missing, blood gushing out like an unattended hose. Fearing it might recover, Jett attacked again, driving his hand straight into its heart.

Jett stood over the creature for another five minutes, watching and waiting for any sign of movement. When he noticed that the body no longer twitched or shifted, he sighed in relief. What had happened earlier was the activation of his Hatsu.

From what he could understand, Jett's body was unique; he was unsure how he knew this—perhaps it was a condition he was unaware of. He realized that his body allowed him to utilize two types of Nen attributes at 100%. Jett's two Nen attributes were Enhancer and Specialization, with his specialization being responsible for his earlier abilities.

His first specialization, Hatsu, was called 'Unlimited.' This Hatsu allowed him to use unlimited Nen, but the duration depended on his age. If he were ten years old, he could use it for ten minutes. This duration would not change until he became older, which was one of the conditions. The second condition was that the amount of Nen he could use would remain constant, based on the amount he could output before activating his Hatsu. No matter how hard he tried to increase it, it wouldn't work; however, it would grant him unlimited Nen for use. The loophole was that he would have to train and improve his Nen without activating his Hatsu.

The third condition was something he had already fulfilled: he had to have died once. Jett found it almost amusing—how could someone die just one time? Was it fortunate that he had already died, or did the previous Jett's death count?

The fourth condition required him to possess two types of Nen attributes that he could use at full capacity. In any other circumstances, this would have been impossible without a unique body like his, though he didn't understand what made it so special. Jett saw this as a positive; according to his information, Hatsu could potentially be stolen, and the very condition of death acted as a deterrent for anyone trying to take his Nen.

The fifth and final condition stated that once time had expired, he would enter a state of force known as Zetsu. Typically, this would leave him vulnerable, but this aspect made Jett extremely happy. His enhancer type wasn't affected by the conditions tied to his specialization. The two Nen types coexisted in his body, but neither dominated the other's conditions. Because of this, Jett was elated; his second Hatsu aligned perfectly with his body's requirements. Again, he couldn't identify what was unique about his body—he only had the information that came to him.

His second Hatsu was called "Gemini Bond." This Hatsu had a few conditions, all relatively simple, but Jett disliked one because it felt unpleasant. This Hatsu allowed him to force his opponent into a state of force Zetsu.

The first condition was that he and his enemy would enter Zetsu's state of force. The second condition was that 'Unlimited' hadn't been activated. The third condition was that the target had to be unwilling, which was an easy requirement to meet. The fourth condition stated that the Hatsu would be broken if the target surrendered willingly. The fifth condition was the one Jett disliked the most: to activate 'Gemini Bond,' Jett had to consume his target's genetic material. It was gross, and he wouldn't have done it earlier if he hadn't been so vindictive. However, he had to admit that Hatsu had decided on his victory.

Gemini Bond forced both the lizard and him into a state of Zetsu, sealing their nen. What determined Jett's victory was that his enhancer nen wasn't affected by his specialization nen; both existed simultaneously in his body, but worked separately. It was the perfect winning move. Jett was so focused on the information that he didn't hear Gon approaching from behind. This time, however, his body didn't react because Gon had no ill intentions.

"Hey, Jett, right? Are you okay? You've been standing there for a while," Gon said. Jett spun around when he heard Gon's voice.

"Okay? I'm great! Did you see that? Tell me you saw it! I won; it was my victory!" Jett yelled, grabbing Gon by the arms and spinning him around.

"I was like, boom and kaboom! Then I was like, whoosh. At the end, I felt like I was dying. It was incredible; my heart felt like it was racing out of my chest. I thought I might die, but in the end, I won. Can you believe it? I've never been so happy to be alive," Jett said without pausing. At one point, he grabbed Gon by the head and kissed him on the cheek, not fully realizing what he had done. Gon was so affected by Jett's enthusiasm that he didn't think about it much.

Gon had indeed watched the entire event from start to finish. He saw Jett plummet to the ground and the lizard creature end up missing half its brain. When it was over, Gon observed the indescribable smile on Jett's face, which, for some reason, tugged at Gon's heart, filling him with an emotion he couldn't quite define.

Jett also realized he had emotions; he genuinely enjoyed that fight. It wasn't just the thrill or the danger he craved. What he truly enjoyed was the fight itself and the careful planning of each move. He understood that he could die if he didn't anticipate his enemy's next move. It was a battle of strategy and cunning. Jett found a reason to become stronger and something to drive him forward in the future. The driving force was the satisfaction of being the last one standing after both opponents had given it their all, but he still felt something was missing.

However, Jett noticed a contradiction in his Hatsu abilities: if he didn't fix them, they would become a burden later on.
