Chapter 5 - 5 - Quirk Training (2)

(1st Person POV)

It has been a week since I started my training with Mr. Zenitsu. School, like usual, is still incredibly boring. I mean, I'm in a class meant for four-year-olds. I was in high school in my past life; everything in that class was so easy that I didn't even think while doing schoolwork.

One good thing came out of that, though. Since my grades are excellent, mom never bothered me with studying or anything like that.

Now I'm heading back home with mom after school

"Mom, what do we have for dinner tonight?"

"I don't know yet, I'll decide when we get home."

Mom and I chatted for a bit while she was driving back home. She asked about my day in school, and I asked her about her day, the usual talks.

When we got home, there was a black car waiting in the driveway of our house.

When mom parked next to them, the front two doors of the car opened. From the driver's seat came out a middle-aged man in a driver's outfit, and from the passenger seat came out a middle-aged woman with black hair in a suit; she looked particularly sharp.

Definitely bodyguard

When I saw that, I got defensive.

(3rd Person POV)

'What the hell? Who are they? Does mom know them?' thought Ask as he looked at his mom.

'Nope, judging from her confused look, she has no idea who or why they're here.'

"Don't be so defensive, young man," came a much older voice from the back seat.

As the person inside the car spoke, the driver had already gotten to the car door and opened it for whoever was inside to step out.

"My name is Tahara Mieko, I'm the head of the Public Safety Commission," said the older woman as she stood in front of Aska and his mother.

(A/N: I couldn't find the actual name of the previous head of the committee. I wanted the one before the committee head in the canon, so I just went with a random name.)

'The safety committee, why are they here?' thought Aska as he glanced at the lady in a suite standing to the side.

"It seems you have questions. Why not talk about it inside?" said the committee head

"I would rather know why you're here first before we do anything else." This time, it was mom who answered.

"My apologies, I didn't mean to bother you. What I'm here for is to help your son to grow, to sponsor your son into becoming a great hero," said the committee head

"Sponsor my son?" Aska's mom asked in a confused tone. Even he was confused.

"Yes, if you don't mind, we could talk about this elsewhere. If you don't feel comfortable with us going inside your house, we could go to my office, it's not that far from here," said the committee head

"There is no need, I want to know what you mean by sponsoring my son," Aska's mom said with a wary but cold voice, as she grabbed his hand and pulled me slightly closer to her.

'Wow, I never knew that my cheerful mom could sound like that,' thought Aska

Noticing his mother's reaction, the committee head put her hands up slightly, "No need to be alarmed, ma'am, let me explain. We at the Public Safety Commission make sure that heroes are abiding by the law and not abusing their power. But for us to do that, we need enforcement officers, but not just any enforcement officers, we need ones that could stand against people, who, like heroes, had gone through professional training."

"What does that have to do with my son?"

"We want to sponsor him to be said enforcement officer in the future."

"I can't make that decision for him, and he is too young to make that decision for himself."

"Ma'am, rest assured, it's not like we will take him away from you. We will provide your family with resources to make sure he grows up without any issues. We will even grant him access to our training facilities with the best instructors there are to teach him everything," the committee head said in a sincere tone.

"Even if I still need to talk to his father about this."

"No problems, I only came today to let you know about this career path. And I came in person to show my sincerity." She then gets down to eye level with Aska and, with a smile, says, "You told your counselors at school that you want to be a hero; this way, you could be a great hero. Just let me help you be a hero."

He didn't want to answer her, so he just pretended to be a bit scared and hid half of his face behind his mom while looking at her.

'No way, you psycho! I know what she wants from me exactly! I'm not about to become the next Lady Nagant.'

She just smiled as she got up and said to us, "Thank you for giving me some of your time. I'll come to visit again next week." After saying that, she got in the car, as did the bodyguard, the driver, and then they left.

'Help me be a hero, my ass, that woman picked every word she said carefully. She just wants me to be their hunting dog!'

Seeing Aska's serious face, his mom smiled, "Don't worry, honey, it's your choice, so don't feel pressured."

"Thanks mom, I'll be ok."

Later that evening, while eating dinner

"Listen, Aska, you don't have to listen to that woman. You do what you want to do. If you want to be a hero, then follow your dream," Aska's dad said as he stabbed his fork into another piece of steak.

"I know, Dad, I don't think I'll join her or anything. She's creepy."

"Anyway, how's your training with Mr. Zenitsu going?" His mom tried to change the subject

"I haven't gotten over my lack of concentration yet."

"It's ok, it was the same for me too, I couldn't tell how to discharge the electricity inside my body correctly, until I was seven or eight," Dad said while eating.

After some more chatting and catching up on my training, we called it a night.

[Next Day | After school]

Mr. Zenitsu arrived as usual after Aska finished school. So far, the training has been about control only.

"Try concentrating again."

"Yes, sir!"

"Aska, you're losing focus again. Focus harder."

"I understand! But it's easier said than done."

'I've been meditating for so long, and I'm yet to be able to move with my lightning flowing naturally.' Aska was frustrated at his lack of improvement.

"Aska, how about we do this. Let's go inside for a bit. Oh, if you don't mind, could you get a laptop or a tablet to watch a video on?"

"Sure"

After he brought his mom's laptop, Mr. Zenitsu pulled up videos of lightning strikes in slow motion.

After watching a couple of those for about 10 minutes, Aska finally realized. Lightning isn't clean cut; it's rigged, with sharp turns, and it tends to spread wider as it goes.

Seeing the understanding look Aska had, Mr. Zenitsu spoke up, "Ok let's get back to training."

After going back to training, He imagined the lightning moving inside his body, as it was moving in the video. He closed his eyes to focus; it took him a second, but he managed to achieve it.

"I think I can move now," Aska opened his eyes and looked at his teacher

"Really, that quick? Go for it then," said Mr. Zenitsu as he took a couple of steps back.

'Holy crap, it works.'

"It looks like you finally can keep your energy in check when moving around," Mr. Zenitsu nodded. "Well, it looks like it's time to end it for today. See you tomorrow, Aska."

"Good night to you too, Mr. Zenitsu," Aska said excitedly

'Finally, I can move lightning inside my body without it shooting out!'

[1 Week Later]

(1st Person POV)

The day the hero committee head was coming, dad called off work and stayed home all day. When they came, dad talked to them.

They tried to persuade dad, even offering large amounts of money. But dad's job paid him really well, so we weren't tight on money or anything like that. So he refused, saying I will be a hero regardless. And he would rather I grow up naturally than be forced to train like a soldier.

They tried to convince him, but he made it clear that we are not interested.

Training with Mr. Zenitsu continued on for many months, until it was summer break.

Mom wanted me to do something fun during the summer, and Mr. Zenitsu recommended swimming classes. He said it has many benefits, like a full body workout, and improving my lung capacity.

Mom thought it was a great idea, so I will spend my summer break going to swimming classes. But I won't stop my training with Mr. Zenitsu.

It was now June 1st, my birthday, I'm five years old now, and my grandparents, whom I haven't seen in a year, have visited us again.

We had the usual party, and at the end, I got gifts. My grandma pulled my gift box out of thin air again, so I decided to ask her about her quirk.

"Grandma, what is your quirk?"

"Ohh~ you wanna know now, do you?"

"Please, I've seen you use it before. I could tell it's some kind of storage, but how does it work?"

"Well, my quirk is called storage; I can store anything through my left hand, and take it out with my right."

"Store it where exactly?"

"Not sure, but I do know that I can only store non-living things in a space around 20 cubic feet, and whatever I put in there stays the same no matter how long it stays in."

'Holly crap, that's OP as hell. It's not combat-oriented, but she could smuggle anything from one country to the next, and there are many other things she could do.'

Seeing my thinking face, Grandma laughed, "You're thinking too much about my quirk, Aska. Why not tell me about your quirk training?"

"Huh? You know?"

"Of course, I know, maybe I don't visit a lot, but your grandpa and I check on you daily with your parents."

"Well, I've been trying for some time now, but I haven't learned anything cool yet."

"I'll give you some advice, Aska. Focus on control. I know you hear this a lot, but as you grow, you will produce more electricity, which will be harder to control. It was the same for your dad." Grandma had a smile on her face, surely remembering dad's mistakes while he was a kid

"Don't worry grandma I'll keep up with my training."

"Good, I also hear your grades are excellent, so keep it up," Grandma said with a big smile on her face.

After the party was over, my classmates and neighbors left, while my grandparents stayed the night in the guest room.
