The atmosphere at the staircase turned tense.
"Can I not play?"
Gulis knew the basic rules of chess and had played it once or twice with friends, but that was just a fleeting interest. She wouldn't win against even an amateur, let alone a professional.
To Gulis, since this little girl dared to compete in chess, her skills must be exceptional, and this was in God's ruins; besides chess, there must be rules pollution attached, making it even more challenging.
The little girl looked at Gulis.
Gulis felt uneasy being stared at but still pleaded, forcing a smile: "I can't play this; even if you give me half the pieces, I still can't win!"
"If you can't play chess, what meaning is there in living? Go die!"
After speaking, the little girl waved at the two Kings: "Send her on her way!"
Gulis felt numb all over and quickly pleaded.
"I'll play, I'll play!"
"Didn't you say you can't?"
"I'll learn on the spot!"
Gulis smiled apologetically: "Can someone guide me?"
"No!"
