Chapter 10 - Chapter Nine: Powers (1)

"This has got to be a trap," June stated as she looked at the lake. It wasn't clear like normal lakes (if there were any clean water at this point.) the water was muddy and bluish, and some parts of the lake were blackish green.

There was a lot of fish swimming in the lake. They looked at each other.

"These are not normal fish," Hayley concluded as she looked at the fish bright yellow eyes from the water sending chills down her spine.

"We have to go back there is no path here, and I am not swimming in that," Jaxon said as he turned. Having no choice the rest followed him.

Following the path January had taken, blueish-red blood could be seen with rotten body parts littered on the ground. After a few minutes of walking, one could see a bloodied figure unconscious on the ground. If one were to look closely one would notice the figure's hair shining, that was January. Her previous pale skin could no longer be seen under the blood.

A black figure came out of the forest, it (or whatever it was.) tried avoiding the rotten parts on the ground. Stopping mid-way the figure turned towards January's blood-covered body moving closer.

Checking her body the figure picked her up and moved back into the forest.

After an hour of walking June, Hayley and the rest were panting for breath under a healthy-looking tree.

"I... think we should... rest here for a while." Jaxon panted as he sat under the tree. The rest nodded in agreement as they placed down the bags they were carrying.

An hour later.

"Ahh!!" Siera's shrill scream woke everybody up.

"Why are you scream-" Hayley stopped mid-sentence as she screamed. "Now you're screaming, why ask such a stupid question while we are all in the same situation!" Siera snapped as she tried to break free from the vines. The group were covered in vines, they knew it was coming from the tree.

"We let our guard down, how could we forget!" Susan said with frustration.

"Forget what?!" Jaxon asked as he tried to break free.

"What January told us before we left to' find food '." June continued Susan's sentence.

A day or so ago.

"Okay." January agreed as she looked down, her hair covering her face. Jaxon signaled the rest towards the forest.

"Oh and before you go, if you see anything healthy don't go near it." she continued looking down after saying this. Jaxon signalled the rest towards the forest.

Present time

Getting frustrated Hayley broke her and free and with a scream, she started punching the vines. Without knowing how the vines and Hayley's hands burned, burning the tree and vines setting the group free. Seeing Hayley's hands on fire, the rest ran towards her. Jaxon took water from the bag on the floor. Before he could pour the water on her hands Hayley shouted.

"Don't, look I'm not burning don't waste the water."

Looking at her hands they realized she wasn't burning. Before they could ask how a figure moving at an inhuman speed landed next to them. Seeing this their faces turned as white as paper as they screamed in fear.
