The Tao Te Ching says, "The five colors make one blind, the five tones deafen the ears."
The threshold of pleasure in life continues to rise.
Once one's happiness is built on certain things, over time, they will require more continuous and intense stimulation to continue experiencing pleasure.
For example, someone who smokes might start by smoking a pack every two days, then a pack a day, and later needing two packs a day, eventually even smoking two cigarettes at once to feel anything. The same logic applies to gambling, drugs, and other vices.
If a person's desires can be infinitely satisfied, they are not far from their downfall.
The environment Xiao Wei is in, and everything he possesses, easily allows his desires to be infinitely fulfilled.
But as the saying goes.
Anything that brings you joy will also bring you pain.
Xiao Wei is currently undergoing this process; the happier he was during the indulgence, the more painful it is now to be unable to let go.
