After a moment, Shirley slowly opened her eyes.
A pair of blue pupils, like the sea melted by ice and snow, were tranquil and clear as a newborn, with a dazed, bewildered look.
"Shirley!" Mai Hunter exclaimed excitedly.
Hearing the familiar voice, Shirley's gaze drifted and settled on Mai Hunter.
A faint, weak smile appeared on her lips as she murmured to herself, "So it's true that you get to see the one you want to see one last time when you die. I die without regrets."
Mai Hunter froze, his voice choked up, "Shirley, you're not dead, you'll get better."
Shirley looked confused. She wasn't dead?
She couldn't remember what had happened…
All she remembered was losing consciousness as though she had fallen asleep, with an instant darkness enfolding her.
