The Inbetween!! Changes!!
Hello, Hello! Myssyng🌟 isn't missing! First I want to thank you for making it this far. Whew! But enough stalling, let's dive into the .5 chapter. I want to start with some of the changes I've made. I always enjoy when other authors and mangaka share the adjustments they made to their stories or characters, so I'm doing the same!
First off, Triton was meant to have no fights at all! Zero! That's why the message was given to the MCs at the start of the arc. It was supposed to be a smaller, simpler arc: play chess, learn more about the world, get in, get out. But we all know how that turned out.
Muppet showed up and wilded out on Vega! For no reason! Named after my guy Muppet, shoutout to him, he asked for the name, blade and companion.
Characters not originally planned for the Arc were DOOM, Fear, Asselli, Ursa, and Rosa. Carina, Vulpecula, and Baidam were present, but only in brief cameos or minor interactions with other characters.
Another challenge was naming the Arc. After adding those characters, the working Arc title was Clash of the Beasts, but it didn't feel right when the beasts only clashed for three or four chapters out of a twenty-chapter Arc…. Later, while doing my usual random internet searches, I stumbled across the phrase Sins of a King. It fit perfectly. I think I first saw it used as a chapter title somewhere, though I can't remember where.
Next is DOOM, DOOM, DOOM, how could I not mention him by himself, inspired by MF DOOM and White from Tower of God, but man there's gonna be so much with DOOM in the future, I'm a hypebeast so hate that his first fight on screen he loses, but he'll be back!
I mentioned this in Wrath's flashback chapter's author note, but the original title was Born Sinner, taken from J. Cole's discography. But when What It Means To Be King was announced by King Von's team, it felt perfect. I already had a backstory in mind, but that title gave me a clear way to build a story around it. I remember a friend/beta reader joking that I did not even know if the album would be good before making it the title. But I knew it would be fire, and it still is!
And how could I not talk about Lich! Such a great addition so far, I had her planned since her cameo in the second Arc, and knew it'll be here where she joins, but there's still so much to do with her, can't wait!
The toughest part of writing this series is naming arcs, attacks, fighting styles and sacred companions. It's not that the rest of the story comes easy, but just finding the right name is by far the hardest. Chapters take so long to release because I'm constantly working out names for one-off side characters that'll never come up again, lol don't hate me.
Another thing, if you can read between the lines a little bit, there are two other mc's that are missing from the group, we may be exploring the other one very soon…
Original Style names, and original companion beasts that I've switched:
Baidam(Greed) – Subzero Style; Ice Orca
Ursa – Luminous Style; —
Carina – Dune Style; Sand Cheetah
Rosa(Envy) – Evergreen Style; Plant Žaltys
I know, I'm even mad at myself about how I keep defaulting to the word Style, but I'll be changing that later. There's a unique element tied to where people come from that I wasn't able to introduce in this Arc, but it'll come in later Arcs, no worries, it's coming.
About IX and X, IX is extremely powerful! I won't say where he would rank…but man is he strong… and he's under Perseus?! Still can't wait to introduce him, but someone special is first.
I would also like to add, I had that debate between Draco, Vega and Wrath planned for yeeeeeaaaaars, finally I was able to show it, it reminds me of my classic Jordan vs Kobe vs LeBron debates, if you all didn't get the reference, nothing wrong with spelling things out.
The minotaur fight! I wanted just a quick side quest after what everyone has been through, and where they could go ALL OUT! It was fun.
We'll keep a lid on Enlightenment.
A lot happened in this Arc, but discussing it all would just make this .5 longer, but I'll close it here. This Arc was long to my standards for Season One, and it will be the second longest, the longest Arc is coming, but wait for it. And that should wrap up the .5 chapter! I plan to do more of these in between certain Arcs, and there will definitely be one at the end of Season One. Lastly, I hope you'll continue with the story all the way to the End of this Journey!
