Alexander grew up in a small county town, and his parents divorced when he was six.
For years before their divorce, the couple was constantly at odds, leaving Alexander at home with no one to care for him. If not for his grandparents living nearby who often came to look after him, he might not have survived.
When he was in kindergarten, his grandfather fell ill, and his grandmother was too occupied taking care of him to look after Alexander. The neighbors often took him in because his parents were too busy fighting to be home, leaving him in the care of neighbors most of the time.
The neighbors all said that Alexander growing up was sheer luck.
