With Lan Zhi's nod of approval, Aunt Chen presented a wooden comb, two red hair ribbons, and a few feet of red satin fabric.
Lan Zhi gave a handkerchief in return, signifying her acceptance.
Aunt Chen then asked for Lan Zhi's birth date and time.
This information should have been prepared in advance, but neither Gu Fei nor Lan Zhi had ever been through this, so they didn't know. Gu Fei hurried to the front of the shop, grabbed some red paper, and wrote down Lan Zhi's birth details for Aunt Chen herself.
Aunt Chen needed to take these and find someone to check their compatibility with Er Lang's.
Only after their compatibility was confirmed could the betrothal gifts be sent.
And only after the betrothal gifts were sent was the engagement considered official.
Aunt Chen took the birth details, had a cup of tea, and Gu Fei, acting as Lan Zhi's family, gave the matchmaker a red envelope before seeing her out.
