The darkness around him was strangely warm.
There was no hospital room. No white walls. No faint hum of fluorescent lights. Only the distant sound of waves rolling against the shore and a familiar voice floating somewhere ahead of him.
"Xiao Mu Tou!"
Qi Sheng slowly lifted his head.
The world before him was blurred at first, as though he were looking through a veil. A warm sea breeze brushed against his face, carrying with it the faint scent of saltwater and something he couldn't quite place.
Then she appeared.
Feng Lin.
She stood barefoot on the bright stretch of sand, the sunlight spilling softly across her face as a smile spread across it the moment their eyes met. For a moment, Qi Sheng simply stared at her, unable to make himself move.
She looked exactly as he remembered.
Young.
Alive.
Beautiful.
She raised a hand and waved impatiently.
"Xiao Mu Tou, what are you standing there for?"
A faint smile touched Qi Sheng's lips.
"Feng Lin…"
