Chapter 3 - [Infection]

The creature is quickly shaken back to consciousness by a barrage of notifications in it's consciousness, explaining things obtained.

[Scan complete; Polytrichum DNA 5%.]

[Explanation; Polytrichum, also known as the "Haircap Moss", is a species of moss which generally lives in areas with high soil toxicity.]

[Title obtained; Aggressive infector]

[Title effect; Change race]

[Race change; Red parasite.]

[New skills obtained; Reproduction, Body control]

[Skill explanation; Reproduction allows host to reproduce an exact copy of the organism once per day. Body control allows host to command and control all reproduced organisms.]

[Race change, Red parasite; allows host to gain skills of their host.]

[Now that host is a virus, the infected organisms will begin showing symptoms.] (Yes, he is called a parasite, but he is more akin to a virus.)

[Part gained; Moss cell wall]

[Part explanation; A thin cell wall designed to keep the shape of the organism.]

The notifications finally came to an end, and the creature felt a very familiar push towards something.... The other organisms connected to it. Now that it had taken over the cell, the creature now knows where it is located in the organism.

"Hmm, I seem to be located on top of a corpse, was that why I came in contact with those weird bacteria?"

The pull to infect and spread slowly grows in the creature, corrupting it's thoughts and pushing it towards growth and strength. The corrupted organism subconsciously grows more Flagella, ready to infect.

The flagella suddenly thrust forward, penetrating the now thinner cell wall of the moss beside it, in a more controlled manner, the cell begins to shake and shudder, but retains the strength of the cell wall. Slowly, a red hue begins to flow from the center of the organism, shooting out in tendril-like patterns that circle around the cell, slowly filling it in.

The organism begins to settle down once more, but different this time. The creature feels a unique link to the organism, like it is the creature but not. The creature decides that a test is in order.

"What is this, i haven't ever felt anything like It!"

[Answer; You have successfully connected with a subsidiary organism.]

The creature begins to attempt to communicate with the organism it has infected, asking "What am i?"

The creature feels a small amount of confusion from the organism, which promptly stops communicating with the creature.

"What gives, why won't it talk to me?"

[Answer; It is one organism, it does not have intelligence]

More and more organisms begin to become infected, first one, then two, then four, But after four, something happens.

[New function unlocked; Fusion]

[Explanation; Fusion allows host to choose two or more subsidiary organisms to fuse together, and possibly get a beneficial mutation.

The creature is intrigued by this idea, thinking of thousands of possibilities that this new function could allow, Quite unlike his former self.

Activating the fusion function, The creature chooses the closest two organisms.

As the two organisms are selected, their cell walls part, opening up as if being knitted in reverse. Contrary to normality, none of the cytoplasm spills out; Instead, the two organisms latch onto each other, their organelles beginning to gravitate towards a single spot. With a majestic display, all the organelles between the two organisms begin to unravel and fuse into a singular, black ball. The cell walls fuse in turn, becoming sharper and harder, but also softer in a way.

[Fusion complete. Result; Enhanced Polytrichum.]

As the notification rings out, The creature feels a pain as if they are being ripped from the ground, before being ground up. The creature's cell walls do little to protect it from the onslaught, quickly dying in a gruesome display (from it's pov).

Hours later, it awakens again. Wondering how it is still alive, the system responds;

[Due to your death, you have obtained control over [Enhanced Polytrichum.]]

The creature's creature sense suddenly turns on, displaying billions of separate organisms all compacted, as the creature is trying to figure out what he is inside, a loud rumbling sounds out from the surroundings, large amounts of liquid flushing the creature down a long tube.

In an act of pure desperation, the creature grows another flagella and stabs it into the walls, putting enough force into the walls to pop hundreds of organisms.

The creature's flagella begins to twist and branch off, rooting into the surrounding tissue. Outside of the body, the creature is in intense pain.

A large, red patch begins to form from the creature's flagella, hundreds of cells converting.

[Mammal DNA acquired, Scanning]

[Symptom mutated; Branching fungus]

[Symptom explanation; Infected creatures grow root-like structures inside of their gut and on their fingers, allowing for blood extraction..]

Just around the creature, multiple red spots begin to bubble and shake, a strange. clear white structure begins emerging, Towers of this substance begins to sprout all over the infected area, growing so fast to stab into other cells.

[Mammal DNA scanned; Homosapien DNA at 35%].

"Human? Here? Where was I born in the first place?"
