The sphere kept tearing through the deeper layers of space, but its once-absolute silence had begun to crack.
Faint tremors passed through its surface with every strike from Undead Skyfall outside, and each tremor caused thin dark-purple lines to spread across the emptiness like fractures in an invisible crystal.
Yet even damaged, the sphere remained terrifying for there was no true direction inside it, no up, down, or distance.
Jacob could see Immortal Nimrod standing before him, but the space between them felt false.
Sometimes Nimrod seemed ten steps away. Sometimes he seemed beyond an entire world. Sometimes Jacob felt as if Nimrod were standing behind his own thoughts, watching from a place where turning around would be meaningless.
This was another terrifying aspect of the Void. It didn't just hide things; it removed the need to find them.
