Chapter 31 - Wolf with a White Spot

AUTHOR'S POV

As the lights flicker, Diana's footsteps echoed in the long chalky empty corridor on her way to the rear facade of the hospital building. She buttoned up her white coat, then secured her crossbody bag across her chest, braving the long walk ahead. The back part of the hospital is a bit darker and thinly populated compared to the other areas. It made the room chillier for Diana.

Diana reached the glass door, pushed it open as she was welcomed with a strong gust of the wind. She exhaled sharply at the poorly lit space ahead of her. The parking space nearest in that area is more secluded and lonelier, for it has more bigger trees and fewer lamp posts. Most resident doctors and interns park in there, considering that it's nearer to the doctor's lounge and special medical units.

Diana climbed down the stairs and headed onto the far right side of the parking lot. At this time, there are no people can be seen around, except for the security circling the area. Diana took her time walking to Calvin's car, hoping he'd catch on soon. With her hands in her pocket, she hummed the song that she heard from Scott before. 'Where did I hear this song?', she thought. She smiled remembering the times that she shared with him. Then, in a second, she sullenly frowned being reminded that he never cared for her at all.

Calvin's reserved parking slot is not a bit far from the last lamp post on the right side of the parking area. 'Almost there', she endured the wrapping darkness surrounding her. Diana shivered and crossed her arms as the cool breeze touch her cheeks. She rubbed her cold hands together and pressed it against her chest.

The leaves rustled softly as the wind blow harder. It almost looked like they were dancing in the cold cloudy night. She stopped for a while and closed her eyes, feeling blast of the wind playing with her hair. It was refreshing, and calming at the same time.

Not too long, she spotted Calvin's car parked from afar just across the yellow lamp post near the wall. As soon as Diana walked ahead, she stopped humming when she noticed a black hooded figure leaning on the car.

Diana looked back to check for the security and saw a guard with a flash light roaming nearby. 'He's not too far', she thought. She looked up ahead again and the hooded figure is still standing, unmoved.

With uncertain steps, Diana traipsed carefully towards the car, fumbling for her phone in her bag in an attempt to call Calvin. However, there is no good reception from where she's standing that she hissed at the very bad timing. She thought of going back to the hospital, but when she turned to tall, thin hooded figure who's sending her off a sense of dread... he's already gone.

Diana searched around for the hooded man. She could hear her rapid shallow breaths escaping her parted lips. When she turned, she gasped at the man who broke into sight in a much closer proximity. "Wha.. what do you want?", Diana was taken aback at his sudden appearance.

The man removed his hood, stared blankly at Diana with his deadpan and bloodshot eyes, and smiled eerily. "Your blood", he stepped forward making Diana weak to her knees.

Diana widened her eyes losing the sound of her voice in shock and in tremendous fear. She stepped back struggling to stand against this odd man with very pale face and sunken eyes threatening her with such a horrifying look. The man then raised his hands with sharp fingernails reaching out to her.

Then, the man swiftly moved in front of Diana with his hand on her face and the other on her shoulder. He opened his mouth revealing his sharp fangs trying to bite her. Diana couldn't believe her eyes. The one before her is not just any man. It's a vampire. She never felt so much fear pouring out her eyes.

With an ample of courage fueling her, Diana held his neck, strangled it and pushed him away with all her might. The vampire was pushed a meter away, and was stunned at the strength Diana displayed. Stunned at the rush of her adrenaline, Diana turned her hands into a fist ready to risk her life whatever it takes. "You're pretty fast and strong for a human. What are you?", the vampire thrusted towards her once again, grabbed her neck and sniffed her hard.

At the vampires touch, Diana anchored in place, reliving her recent assault. Faces of William and his friends bombarded her head as she breathe heavily. Thus, a part of her didn't want to let it all happen again. She then decided to hold out against the vampire who had incredible strong vigor for a dead person. She placed her left arm on his chest and the other hand on his neck, trying to push him away before he gets to taste her blood. As he was about to completely lunge his fangs onto her neck, they both heard a soft growl coming nearby.

The vampire stopped, and slowly released Diana. He let out a low ccrusty growl as he turn around. Free from the vampires clutches, Diana hurriedly backed away as she carelessly fell down on the ground. To her much surprise, she saw an incoming wolf, growling with its knife-like jagged teeth ready to pounce. Coming in sight under the yellow ray of the lamp post, the purely black wolf that just arrived appeared with a white spot on its forehead and is much bigger than a horse, standing in an aggressive stance. With its long fangs out, it gave a more vicious impression compared to the one Diana met back in the island.

Diana desperately hoped that this is all a dream. Vampires and wolves revelation is too much to handle for one night. She crawled on the ground backwards until her head hit Calvin's car. From there, she gaped at the supernatural duel she'll ever witness.

By the look of the wolf, the vampire immediately knew what he is up against. This beast is no ordinary wolf. And he cannot stand a change against an Alpha. The vampire snarled at his opponent, with a decision to flee. However, before he could make a swift turn to escape its claws, the Alpha wolf already pounced on him, digging down on its body. Wriggling underneath the weight of the wolf, the vampire fought hard to fend it off. However, the wolf mauled the vampire's neck, and ferociously chewed his head off. And in just a few seconds, the vampire turned to ashes.

Diana closed her eyes tightly and clasped her shirt in terror. The wolf got rid of the vampire so easily. In her head, she's about to be its next victim. Thinking about it now, she thought that it's better to be sucked dry by the vampire rather than to be torn apart by a rabid beast. The wolf lope towards Diana carefully, then laid down in front of her. When she opened her eyes, Diana was struck to see how calm the wolf appears to be. Despite it is extremely large for a wolf, it no longer seemed to be more fearsome, with those gray eyes shining like the moon staring back at her. Up close, Diana noticed its white spot on the forehead which reminded her of Apollo. She flinched when it stood up on all fours, advancing to her much closer.

"Please don't hurt me", she pleaded as she fold her legs to the side. The wolf bowed a little, submitting itself to Diana. Diana was too afraid to touch the wolf but if it wants to hurt her, she realized that she should've been its meal already. She then lifted her trembling hand, with her palm up. The wolf slowly placed its face on her palm, whimpering softly. With its furriness resting on the palm of her hand, Diana curled her fingers scratching its chin. "Amazing..", she dropped her jaw in awe.

The wolf edged in and licked her hand, then her arm, going to her neck and face. Diana gave out a very long sigh of relief, as she roll her eyes. "How come wolves like me… not as meal at least", she chuckled as the wolf didn't stopped licking her face. She wrapped her arms around its neck, burying her hands in its thick black fur. "I didn't know wolves can be this big! Thanks for saving me. that's a vampire right? I can't believe they're real..", Diana rubbed the wolf's neck and embraced it in mystical elation. Her heart fluttered as she get closer to the wolf, with the scent coming from it made her feel at ease. "Where are you from? I can't believe there are wolves this big in this part of the city. Don't just show yourself to others. You look so scary, they might hurt you", Diana held the wolf's face as she stare into its eyes. She suddenly furrowed her brows as she become conscious of the scent coming from the wolf. A heartwarming scent escaping its thick fur that she just wanted to breath in more. "You smell nice", she said, then she heard Calvin calling her name. The wolf turned its head back and growled softly. Then, it licked Diana's face one more time before swiftly running away.

Dropping her shoulders and laying her back against the car, Diana is so relieved that it's finally over. She wiped her face with the hem of her coat, then shouted for Calvin. "Calvin! I'm here!", she stood up and fixed herself, her clothes, and her hair. She stared at the ashes on the ground as it is being blown by the wind. "Who would believe me?", she uttered.
