"Keep firing," I commanded, my voice cold and echoing over the roar of battle.
Even as the tactical part of my brain signalled that a retreat to a different gate was the logical play, I couldn't just walk away yet. I had to gauge the upper limit of this anomaly. I needed to see exactly how much pressure this energy shield could take before it buckled.
After all, Worcester wasn't going anywhere, and if I intended to claim this city, I would eventually have to return and dismantle this hard-to-crack opponent piece by piece. I'd rather know the thickness of the armour before I commit to the final blow.

The sky and earth shook as the fallen gods and dragons unleashed a coordinated symphony of destruction. Mighty explosions blossomed across the surface of the energy dome, sending plumes of steam and debris into the air.
