The call ended but the silence between her and her husband echoed like a thundering bolt inside the car.
She had lost count on how many times she had sucked in some air to breathe and open her mouth to say something, to ask questions but she could not find the right thing to say or ask.
She glanced at Matthew's side profile and observed his demeanor.
His eyes were fixed on the road. Two hands gripping the steering wheel. The corner of his mouth had been drawn into a tight line after he dropped the call from Marcus.
She breathed in deeply and exhaled them as slowly as her lungs could go. Clearing her head with all the rumble of questions in her head.
"Lil, I know you have a lot of questions and I'm willing to answer them as truthfully as I can and if they are within my capabilities to answer…"
"Why? Is there anything that you can't tell me? What are you hiding?"
