The officer behind the door glanced at the already disappeared elderly man and slowly reached out to close the small door.
In the distance, the elderly man standing atop a small hill lifted his head to gaze at the vast wilderness before him, gently raising the curved walking cane in his hand.
Around him, the void began to writhe; a pervasive gray glow seeped from the rift in space and time, unfolding like a vast net covering the heavens, spreading outside the entire city wall.
