Chapter 3 - First Day

Chapter 3 First Day

*Beep beep beep bee- click*

*sigh* "Morning already, alright, lets do this." I mutter before getting out of bed. Today is my first day of school not taught to me by either mom and dad or grandma. I'm pretty nervous as my past experience with other people haven't been that great, my parents, grandma, and the staff excluded.

But grandma says I need to learn how to communicate with other people, not just the people around me, which I understand, I just don't have high hopes for people to give me a chance to talk to them in the first place.

It's pretty hard to hope when the only people outside of this building that have given me a chance are my parents, but I will try to talk and make some friends, for grandma's sake.

"Mr. Arataki, Miss. Turner is waiting for you down stairs and would like to make sure you eat before you leave" comes a voice from outside my room.

"I'll be down in just a moment, just tell Grandma Ann I'll be down shortly, will you Lissa?" I yell back while rushing to get make sure I packed everything

"I'll be sure to let her know Mr. Arataki." Melissa yells through the door before going to tell Grandma Ann.

I rush through brushing my teeth and shinning my horns before scrambling down stairs to breakfast, I really didn't want to miss it, after all the last time I ate was last night so I was ready to eat a horse at this point.

You see part of my mutation as a mutant causes me to have a voracious apatite, it wasn't as bad when I was a baby but I still ate about as much as an adult when I was only a toddler, nowadays I can eat enough for 7 people in a single sitting.

"About time you got out of bed, I was worried all the food Richard made would got to waste" Grandma remarks as I sit at the table, the smell of the sausage, bacon, eggs, French toast, pancakes, and waffles causing me to become even hungrier.

"With me around that will never happen" I say before quickly digging into the food before me.

"You should show some manners while at the table Mr. Arataki" Melissa reminds me after seeing me not bother with silverware.

"Why don't you let the boy eat Lissa, it's not like he's hurt'n anything, and seeing someone eat my food so eagerly is the best compliment I can get as a chef" Richard interjects as he enters the room with pitcher of orange juice. "Just make sure to slow down a bit and drink something before you choke."

"So Itto, excited for your first day?" Grandma asks me.

"bmmm rmmmy" (born ready) I try say between bites.

"Good, today Stephanie will drive you to school and drop you off, I've already spoken with the school and they have agreed to teach you despite your circumstances though a few teachers had quit and moved on to other prospects. You and I both know how hard this will be, you will face much discrimination while you are there, but you will have to persevere, and don't worry about getting in too much trouble, as long as I am here no one will be able to go too far." Grandma says, I had stopped eating part way through to listen to what she has to say.

"You don't have to worry, I can take anything they throw at me, after all I'm more durable then I was a few years ago, and I'll do my best to stay out of trouble, okay?" I assure her

*Sigh* "I know, I just can't help but worry about you after knowing what you've been through"

I finish eating, say bye then head down through the elevator out of the building. When I make to ground floor some of the residents give me looks before going on about their day. Outside right in front of the building is a black SUV, Stephanie was in the drivers seat on reading one of her romance novels while waiting for me.

I hop in the passengers seat and we talk while we head off to school, as we head to school we pass by stark tower, it has become an especially hot topic a few moths ago on May 25th of this year, their C.E.O., Tony Stark has announced himself as the Iron Man.

Iron Man was this guy who had appeared out of nowhere one day to save a couple people from some terrorists in another country, everyone knew the man behind the mask worked at Stark industries but nobody knew it was the C.E.O., billionaire, playboy, philanthropist himself behind the mask until the day after he got into a fight with this guy called Obadiah Stain who made a rip off of his suit, where at a press conference he announced himself as Iron Man.

I don't know what to think of him to be honest, when I asked Grandma about him she said that it would be best if I met him myself before I formed an opinion on him, so I decided to stop thinking about it until I get that chance.

When we pulled up to the school the principal was there waiting for us, along with a security guard, the way the principal stayed close to the security guard and the look in his eye told me why the guard was there.

The principal then led me around the school and introduced me to the teachers before school started so that they all knew who I was and I could know where to go for each of my classes.

As we neared the end of our tour students were coming into the school, a they looked at me and each look gave me a different feeling, a few called me names as they passed by but no one touched me so nothing happened.

When the tour finally ended I started head to class while trying to ignore all the looks people were giving me, there were a few who didn't look at me as they seemed to be preoccupied with their books or needed to be somewhere in a hurry.

While the older guys would be more vocal about their dislike of me the girls were worse, they kept talking to each other in their little clicks making fun of me which was annoying as I could clearly hear what each of them said and the proceeding laughter and giggles.

When I finally made it to first period the teacher nodded in my direction before I sat down in the back of the room, not like it mattered where I sat as I had enhanced sight and hearing so sitting in the back was just so nobody could shoot spit balls at the back of the head like in movies or do something similar.

After a few minutes class started, we ended up not doing much as the teachers used the first day as an overview of what we will learn, how we will be graded, and specific rules for the class and/or school.

My day was pretty uneventful so far if you exclude the constant stares and comments, that was until lunch, where I had to find somewhere to sit. Thankfully there were still a few empty tables at this time as my previous class was really close to the cafeteria, so I picked a spot and started eating, I was alone at a table for a surprising amount of time until someone else finally sat at my table.

He appeared pretty average about average height, short brown hair, and a little on the skinny side, he sat opposite from me and pulled out a book and started reading while he ate. I was going to completely ignore him as he probably doesn't want to talk at all but I haven't really talked to anyone yet and I need to start to try and make some friends so.

"Hey, what's that book you're reading?" I ask.

*Sigh* "It's one of Steven King's novels it's cal- oh it's you, the mutant everyone's been talking about" he says as he looks up at me and sets his book down. "So… you ever eat anyone?"

*pf-cough cough*(sound for spiting out food and proceeding to cough) "What did you just say!?" I ask, both in shock and disgusted from what he asked me.

"I asked if you've ever eaten anyone before, it's a common troupe for monsters to eat people in books and you don't look that far off from a demon with your long white and red hair, red markings, your sharper then average teeth, your reddish orange eyes, and most prominently your red devil like horns. Though the more I think about it you seem to have more similarities with something else I was reading about last week, can't put my finger on it though. But can you answer my question?"

"Okay, no, I have never eaten anyone before, and who asks that!?"

"Well I was curious, never met a mutant before but I've heard a lot about them and I've heard rumors around school about you so I felt I should ask"

"Wait what rumors?" I expected them but I want to know what they are.

"Well most are about how you might be a devil that tricked the principal to let you in here to do all sorts of nasty things, one of them being eating us one by one"

"That's… messed up"

"Yeah, rumors about mutants are all generally just as messed up"

"Why is that?"

"Don't know, just the way things are"

"Anyway I never got your name?"

"Jacob, Jacob Brown" he says as he puts his hand up for a handshake.

"Itto, Itto Arataki" I say as I shake his hand.

*Brrrrring*

"Well that's lunch, see yah tomorrow Itto" he says as he goes to put away his tray and head to class.

"Y-yeah, I guess I'll see yah then Jacob" I say somewhat stunned how well that turned out in the end.

I head to class and the rest of the day goes pretty smoothly, when school ends I head out to find Steph waiting in the car reading her romance novel again. When I get in in she asks, "So how was it?"

"Not as bad as I thought it would be, and I think I made a friend."
