Chapter 59 - Chapter 58

"So, this is going to be a thing now." I looked down at the, now clothed, little girl who was refusing to let go of my arm even as Urahara waved Hougyoku near me.

"It does seem so. But putting aside the very intriguing case of… whatever Rika-chan is supposed to be, can you tell me if you feel any different?"

"I guess my reserves feel a little bit bigger but I'm not sure if that's actually true or just a mental thing. Feeling it cause I think I should be feeling it." I said with a frown as I raised my hand and took the glowing orb back with a gravitational pull, ignoring Urahara's squawk. "Are you sure it worked?"

"It did react to you and you do have Hollow based powers." Urahara said. "But I have never used it on someone with Hollow powers who was not experiencing soul suicide, except for Rika." He pointed at the girl who glared at him and I could swear that the air suddenly got colder.

"Great, so we have no way of knowing." I said with a roll of my eyes. "Not sure what I was expecting anyway. Not like you Shinigami have anything really unique to yourself that would make itself known."

"That's a rather mean thing to say." Yoruichi said as she crossed her arms under her chest.

"Is it wrong though?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. "Hollow and Quincies have their own special techniques and powers. But any random human can become a Shinigami and learn your techniques as long as they have enough spiritual energy. What exactly makes you people a race?"

"...you sure you don't feel any change?"

"Don't ignore my question?!" I yelled at the shopkeeper who simply turned around and acted like he didn't hear me.

I grumbled to myself as I dropped Hougyoku into my shadow, I would deal with the glowy marble of doom later, and mentally started to diss the powers of Shinigami 'race'. Honestly, the only thing these people had that was a true game changer was Zanpakuto, excluding Yoruichi, and supposedly anyone could turn an Asauchi into a Zanpakuto with enough power to imprint on the blades. And...

...

...

...

...didn't I have a Zanpakuto myself?

I reached down to my shadow to take out the sword that I had looted off of that lime faced fucker noble, thinking that maybe these new Shinigami powers would awaken if I were to have a Zanpakuto, and... found nothing?

I kept my face calm as I started to panic internally. The sword was not in my shadow? It couldn't have been stolen as there was no one who could reach into my shadow. Maybe Urahara could figure out some sort of bullshit to do it but I hadn't told him about the sword, nor to Yoruichi so she couldn't have told him either. So who could have actually reached inside my sha...

I blinked once. Then I blinked twice. Then I looked down at Rika still clinging to my arm, uncaring of anything around her, and felt my heart rate quicken as she looked up at me with a tilt of her head.

"Rika, my dear."

"Yes Cain?"

"Do you happen to know what happened to the very special Zanpakuto that I had been keeping in my shadow?" I asked with a trembling smile, ignoring the questioning looks Yoruichi and Urahara were sending our way as Rika smiled up at me with a ten million megawatt smile.

"Yes, I do."

"Cool, would you tell me what happened to it?" I could already feel my stomach dropping as Rika's smile became a ten billion megawatt smile.

"I ate it!"

---------------

Ishida Uryū sighed as he walked through the door. He wouldn't admit it under the threat of death in front of Kurosaki or Cain but the so called adventure in Soul Society had tired his soul out.

He felt his hands clench into fists as he remembered his battle against that monster with clown makeup who had his grandfather murdered for his sick experiments. The bastard had practically toyed around with him and Tatsuki and despite making use of everything in his arsenal short of the last ditch self sacrifice ability of the Sanrei Glove, they had been almost killed.

If Cain had not arrived when he had, then they would either be dead or Uryū would spent the rest of his life as an ordinary human with no powers instead of a Quincy. Considering that it would have happened in the middle of enemy territory, the 'rest of his life' would have been quite shorter than he would have liked.

He… he didn't want to admit it but he was pathetically weak compared to Cain, the only other Quincy alive. They were the same age and he had managed to defeat more than one captain, two he had defeated atonce, while he hadn't been able to beat one with help! Just how was he so ahead of him?!

"About time you came back." Uryū's inner monologue stopped as he was greeted by a bespectacled man with white hair sitting in his chair.

"What's it to you?" He asked with a glare.

"Can't a father worry about his child? Especially one that insists on using his life in foolish pursuits."

"Isn't it a bit too late for that?" Uryū scoffed as he turned around, intending to find someplace else to sleep rather than deal with his father. Couch had always looked comfortable.

"I see that your little trip to Soul Society has not taught you any manners." Ryuuken sighed, making Uryū stop. "I had hoped that you would realize the foolishness of your pursuit, or at least lose your powers and get that choice taken from you. That's why I didn't hide the Sanrei Glove when I had the chance."

The words of his father finally made Uryū's patience snap as he materialized his bow and turned around. He wasn't going to attack the man, he wasn't honorless enough to attack someone with no means to defend themselves, but before a single word could leave his mouth; his bow was shattered by two arrows made out of spirit particles.

Fired from the small bow in his father's hands.

"You?!"

"It seems I have to clarify my words from years ago." Ishida patriarch said as he pushed his glasses up with one finger. "You are the one with no talent for Quincy arts. I, on the other hand, am the one with no interest in them." His father then looked at Uryū and he could swear that the man's eyes were softer than usual, only to dismiss such ridiculous thoughts.

"I wouldn't have revealed it but there probably is no more point with that new Quincy." He said, his eyes darkening. "And I am guessing that telling you to stay away from him would be pointless."

"You would be guessing right." Uryū said with a glare and his father sighed.

"I guess that is the norm with you. Yet it seems like something did change with you, even if not in the way I had been hoping."

"Tell me what happened in Soul Society."
