Becca was puzzled, "If that's your view on love, why did you say something completely different to me last time?"
Christine sighed deeply, "Because I was jealous of you and wanted you to back off."
"Back off?"
"Yes, I was jealous that you had taken all of Howard's affection from me, jealous of how devoted he is to you now, and even more jealous that you could make him break up with me."
Becca let her true feelings slip out, "But I felt that you didn't intend to deceive me at the time."
Christine gave a bitter smile, "That just means I acted too well."
At this moment, Becca's thin body dropped heavily onto the chair, her face a picture of bewilderment.
"I am quite sorry for this, but clearly my words didn't change your decision to be with Howard... I'm curious, since you were so determined to be with him, why did you choose to separate today? You haven't told me the reason yet."
Becca was absent-minded and did not answer Christine.
